It is true that 1 in 200 die from surgery but it all depends on the person

and the docs too. Are the docs experienced in this surgery. Ask them how many

they have performed and what the outcomes have been. Ask if they have lost any

patients and why, don't be afraid to ask questions. Also what is your physical

condition aside from being overweight. Your risks increase if you are with

high blood pressure, diabetic, or heart desease. Not that these are the only

people who will die, that is not so, most have perfectly fine surgeries and most

all these problems go away after weight loss, but they have the higher risk. I

know I was ssoo scared I trembled right up until i was going in to surgery.

My thoughts on this journey had been to do all my tests, learn what I could and

prepare for surgery and in my head I knew i could always back out in the end,

but i am ssooo glad I did not. I am 1 1/2 years postop, have lost 140 pounds,

did not get to goal yet but feel awesome, and I am now 7 months pregnant and

this pregnancy is so much easier than with my other kids preop. I don't even

have swollen hands and feet at all like I did with my others, usually by now my

rings are off and I can't get my shoes on but not this time, if it were not

for my rounding belly i would not even know I was prego. I did not even have

morning sickness :) So follow you heart and do what you think is best for you.

I have a four year old, and had the same worries, but I decided that I had

to take the chance or else I would for sure not be around later.

You're exactly right Helena. There are a lot of risks associated with

any surgery but when you've tried everything else and have done your

research the risks are lower with gastric bypass than without.

Helena, I'm guessing that should be 6/23/03 for your RNY :)? That's

great 135lbs! I was 5 pounds heavier than you when I had mine, you're

an inspiration. Any tips being a year out on how to keep the weightloss

going strong?
