I had upper jaw surgery to correct an open bite in Oct of 2003. I did

not get my braces off until Dec. 2004. You do the math!!! Yep,

braces after surgery are the norm. That is how they fine tune

everything. For some reason my post-surgery orthodontics took longer

than most people. I have heard the average in braces post op ranges

from 4 to 10 months.

Thanks for all of your comments! That is complete news to me, my

surgeon did not mention once that I would have braces after surgery,

but it seems like the norm so I might have to go yell at him... I was

hoping to be totally free of everything by college but maybe that's

not an option
