Guest guest
Whew! At least you have one doctor who pays attention to the science! I always appreciate when science trumps arrogance. Good for you for educating your doc about SCD. I tried to educate my 2 GI’s I’ve had in the past. Result? Epic Fail because they were not interested in the science! Glad to know there is another doc out there who is being re-trained in gut ecology & disease. Carol CD 22 yrs SCD 5 yrs From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of Sherry Kurtz I have to share another doctor story with you...this time a good one. As follow-up to the GI s advice to my son about going on Remicade, I contacted the Rheumatologist that we had worked with prior to my son's dx. He is primarily a researcher and in the course of out discussion, I mentioned that we tried SCD and what the science was behind it, why this made sense to me. He said that the research that they are doing right now with mice has been one of showing the connection of certain bacteria to be a contributing factor in the unbalance in the gut. (YAY!) I said that's exactly the idea behind SCD. I gave him Dr Haas' name and the name of Elaine's book and he said he would be interested in looking at that. ,_._,___
Guest guest
HI Michele, I will try. This has not come out in print yet-these are just the preliminary findings. The study is still running. I do want to follow up with him and maybe get a more thorough explanation. I will pass on whatever I find out. Also, he has used Remicade quite a bit in his practice for the treatment of RA and is not as concerned about it's side effects as you and I might be for our children. He says it's scarier on paper than in practice. He's not a GI but knows how effective R has been for Crohn's patients. He also told me if (my son) were his son he would use it. How is your son doing on it? I completely understand your desire to get him off of it. I'm not thrilled at all at the thought of starting mine on it either. I guess I had to face that he's not ready/willing to do SCD now and, being his age, I can't just force the issue. I also realized that I need to respect his need to feel better NOW. He's been feeling like h*** for a year and wants some relief. This has been an excruciating decision for his dad and I but we are not feeling what he is and struggling daily. We will just continue to pray for his protection and that he will choose to do SCD sometime later. Good Luck to you-I'll keep you posted on the study.
