Guest guest
HI Jer I totally understand, I ski and snowboard a ton every winter, and not getting to this winter due to surgery on Jan. 14 was really rough. My surgeon told me at two weeks that I could start doing some cardio, and really light weights at the gym. Anything where I might hit my jaw, or cause muscle strain on my jaw was (and still is) out though. I went skiing at 5.5 weeks, on some slopes that I knew for sure there was no risk of me falling on. Haven't been snowboarding just because I " m not as good as was worried about falling. I think falling, even if not on my jaw would be very unpleasant for me still. I figure skate as well, and have been leery of trying anyjumps agains because the muscles of my jaw can't hold things in place very well yet, and there would be a definite crunch if I fell. It probably comes down to how much you're willing to risk things, and how confident you are on your snowboard -- my surgeon probably wouldn't have ok'd my skiing, but I knew I had as much of a chance of falling doing that as walking down the sidewalk, so I felt, for me, it was an acceptable risk. It takes 10+ weeks for your bones to heal fully though as I understand it, so any sports you do before then are somewhat risky. - > > ok, its looking as though i will be under the knife sometime early next winter ( around christmas sometime). what im wondering is if ill be able to snowboard next winter after surgery. how long do the doctors suggest to take off from this type of activity? i have been riding for 10 years now and really only ride halfpipe. i can understand having to take off from this for the whole season since there is a good chance of landing hard from 10-15ft ( which i do on a regular basis when learning new tricks) but ill have a hard time taking off completely and not even getting to just do some free riding. im planning to head out to tahoe with some friends for spring break next year and i really hope that i dont have to back out due to surgery. > > any comments would be appreciated. > > thanks. > > Jer > > > > __________________________________________________ >
