Guest guest
Hi, Annie I used to be diabetic too (adult onset) but since my bypass surgery, my blood sugars are in the normal range most of the time. My HbA1c has been 4.8 for the past year. But I didn't get rid of my neuropathy (it's almost never reversible) and it is getting worse. I didn't expect that, as my endocrinologist had told me the only way to control it was to control my blood sugars. Well, they're controlled now, but the neuropathy is still getting worse. Ya win some, ya lose some, I guess. I have heard of Charcot's Foot, and very sorry to learn you have this. From what I know, it's a real bummer. I'm sure you know everything there is to know about it, but I'm copying an entry from my data base (excuse the abbreviations, please) for those on the list who might want to know a bit more: CHARCOT FOOT Technically known as neuropathic arthropathy. Joints may shft n chng positn n shape. Foot may take on a deformed convex appearance, no arch, rocker bottom appearnce. May ulcerate where pressure is highest. Foot can swell, get red, warm to touch, look like an infectn. X-rays cn be misleading. May need special bone scans or MRI to diagnose. Treatmt incl's immobilizatn, mayb fr mnths while foot heals. Cast, splint, wheelchr, etc. If surgery reqrd, s/b done by docs experienced w/operatg on Charcot foot. U cn hlp prevnt it w/tite contrl of sugars, daily foot inspctn, reglr podiatrist vists. -------------------------------- While you're in this situation, it's certainly understandable that exercise is really tough to handle. But why not give yoga a try? There are many many positions that will strengthen and loosen your muscles and joints that don't require you to stand on your feet. It will also help to improve your moods. Don't ignore the meditation and relaxation component of yoga; it's as helpful as the exercises. Hope you're feeling better really soon!
