Hi i, I'm still pre-op like you, but I've heard so many post-opperz say that they are most definitely NOT on a diet for the rest of their lives! People say they do not feel burdened by deprivations and restrictions of dieting. There are still guidelines to follow (vitamins, protein-first, etc.), but I welcome those compared to the don't-eat-this, count-that mentality I've had to struggle through before and only have it result in failure. I eat well now and I watch out for things like high sodium, cholesterol, processed foods, etc and I don't expect that to change, but Dieting like we have all known in the past? Goodbye! -
Guest guest
On Sunday, June 11. My Mom spend the night. She wanted to make sure she was awake by 4:30 am. We had to leave at 5:00 am to be at Kaiser in Richmond by 7:00am. Needless to say: no one went to sleep. We were at Kaiser at 6:00 am. At 7:00am A nurse called me into a room, where he gave me two IV's, a shot in the stomach, (so I wouldn't get blood clots.) (a medicine called carafate, which coats the stomach. catheter, shot in the arm, Oxygen in my nose and leg warmers to keep the blood flowing. At 7:30 am, The anthesioigist and my surgeon talked to me. At 7:50 am. They wheeled me in to the operating room. It was a big surgery room with big equipment. There was the anthesioigist and two nurses. As I was laying there, looking around. I thought, what am I doing? Do I really want to do this? "NO", forget it. I was about to say it, to the nurse, that I changed my mind. The next thing I remember was waking up in recovery. "To late" I woke up with alot of pain. After 3 hours in recovery, they wheeled me to my room, where my Mom and Vince were waiting for me. They asked how I was feeling? I said, alot of pain in my stomach. The surgeon did Laparoscopic. Which is better then opened. All I wanted was more pain medicine and to sleep. I didn't want to feel the pain. At 4:00 pm. The nurse, took my catheter out. They want you to go pee on your own. The IV is 1 qt. sugar water. The IV lasted for one and half hour. So I had to pee alot. Every time, I had to pee. The nurse would have to un plug my IV lines, my leg warmers and oxygen. I would have to pee in a plastic lid. That measures your pee. You couldn't go home, until you can pee on your own. Being the great pee-er that I am. I did just fine. (my room mate couldn't pee and they had to put the catheter back in her.) There was no rest in the hospital, the nurse came in every two hours to check your blood pressure, heart rate and temperature. I also had to get out of bed every four hours to walk. Dinner was delicious: Sugar free: Jello, pudding, tea, soup. I didn't want any of it. I just kept on sucking on ice chips. The next morning my doctor came in and looked at my insect ions. And said they look fine, I'm peeing good. And drinking my water. "Do you want to go home"? I only wanted to go home, so they would take the two IV's out. The bumps on the road hurt my stomach. But the hour ride home was fine. The first three days were the worst. The stomach pain was bad. On the fourth day, I was feeling fine. I'am walking around the house, drinking my water and crystal light, eating very little. The hardest thing for me is chewing the vitamins. They don't taste that good. I have a call into the doctor right now. To see what other ones, I can try. My Mom, stayed with me, when Vince was at work. It has been one week and 4 days since my surgery and I'm doing very well. If you have any questions. Please feel free to asked. I want to thank every one, for all the prayers, flowers, cards, phone calls and visited. I am so blessed to have wonderful friends and family.
