Guest guest
> Poly cystic ovarian syndrome > Yes, the extra hair is just one side effect of PCOS. I think a lot of women who are obese might have PCOS and don't know it. They don't know if obesity causes PCOS or PCOS causes obesity, but it's definately related. Do some research on the net to find more info. Just type PCOS into a search engine and you will be inundated with information. P.S. I was able to get pregnant with fertility drugs 8 years ago before I knew anything about PCOS. I think having the DS and losing weight will increase anyone's chances of conceiving, so don't go ripping out your ovaries just yet.
Guest guest
> , > would it help for women with PCOS to have their ovaries removed? > > Judie Judie: It makes no difference in PCOS whether you have your ovaries or not. They call it Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome because it attacks the ovaries causing a whole bunch of little cysts, but its not an ovarian problem, its an endocrine problem and it causes several other health problems besides ovarian cysts. The cysts are just one sign. PCOS is not really a good name for it and it has gone by several other names. I had my ovaries removed because I was having a hysterectomy anyway and opted to remove the ovaries too, but it hasn't stopped by PCOS symptoms. Losing 85 lbs. has lessened my symptoms and I was able to quit taking Glucophage and don't have low blood sugar swings anymore. I think losing a significant amount of weight is the only cure for it and you can't do that on your own, PCOS doesn't allow our bodies to lose weight the traditional way. In my opinion, WLS surgery was the only answer.

Guest guest
Yes, I also have PCOS. Mine is not bad and all I do for control is take the pill. I am due for my annual checkup again and am anxious to see my dr's reaction to my weight loss. We discussed me weight last year and she encouraged me to do something about it. I don't think she was talking surgery though! It should be interesting and I am sure I will have her full support when she sees the numbers. Guest guest
I do or did have PCOS. I had an ovarian wedge resection back in the late 70's... don't think they even do those anymore. Then in 1985 I had a hysterectomy. What I am unsure of is whether the hysterectomy negates the PCOS. I have found statements for both directions. However, it appears to me to be a much larger endocrine disorder. ...... Elle Re: Re: PCOS > I have PCOS and that is one reason why I am having the DS done.
