Guest guest
Hi , Well I was thrilled to see there was someone on this message board that was using alternative non-drug related methods to aid recovery. I was wondering, did you take arnica tablets before and after your surgery? I used arnica cream to help heal bruising after another operation I had but have never taken arnica tablets. My mother has now stocked up on a huge amount of arnica but I am concerned that my surgeon will not be familiar with arnica and therefore will tell me not to take it. He is putting me on iron tablets for a whole month before surgery so there is always the chance he'll be ok with the arnica. But I wanted to know if possible what exactly the anaesthesiologist said to you when you asked him about the homeopathic remedies and which ones were you using. Sorry about all these questions! Guest guest
Can someone tell me how to get off this web site- I don't want to get all the e-mails anymore. Thanks fiddlesticks220002 <no_reply > wrote: Hi Sara, I don't mind the questions at all, I'm glad to be of some help. I actually took a lot of different homeopathic remedies post-op, but I wouldn't want to list them because my homeopath prescribed them for me personally. I don't believe in just buying them off the shelf and self-medicating because unless you've studied this practice, it's hard to know what to take and for how long. As you probably know, you can cause the symptoms you're trying to relieve with enough of a dose or by taking it for too long. Anyway, arnica, yes. I took some the night before (round white pill), and then afterwards. I believe all of my remedies were in liquid form post-op, and I had my husband administer them to me with a dropper bottle. I asked my surgeon about homeopathic remedies, and he was quite indifferent about them. He said he'd had patients who had used them, with no ill effects. He suggested I talk to the anaesthesiologist. There was no meeting with the anaesthesiologist prior to surgery day and I met him in the holding tank next to the operating rooms area. I did ask him (but had already decided to go ahead anyway) and he was also indifferent. The one thing we did do was not tell the nurses afterwards and we were discrete about not using the remedies when they were around. But I took them regularly as prescribed for me, and they were a large part of my quick recovery. Ask your surgeon about Floradix - it's a liquid iron and b vitamin supplement that you can get at any good health food store - it's more easily absorbed than tablets. I took a dose a day for about a month pre-op and then 2 doses a day post-op. I also used some cassette tapes from the Monroe Institute (Surgery Support Tapes) before, during and after the surgery, and the resident surgeon said I'd had the fastest recovery from these procedures he'd ever seen, and attributed it to the tapes. About the homeopathics - some people are not so well-versed in them and think they are the same as taking herbs. Some herbs in large doses are apparently not a good idea if you're having surgery or taking other drugs. But homeopathics are minute doses and shouldn't cause problems during the surgery, although I am not an expert in their use. I would urge you, though, if you can, to seek out a registered homeopath and get some advice on how to take this, and also get some advice on other remedies that can help. For example, I took remedies that were for clearing the anaesthetic, bone breaks, deep tissue healing, etc. Over the course of my recovery, she changed the composition of the remedies, stopping some, starting others. It's not something I would ever be comfortable designing for myself. Arnica can also be used (and I've used it twice this way now) to combat jet lag. Hope that helps! > Hi , > > Well I was thrilled to see there was someone on this message board > that was using alternative non-drug related methods to aid recovery. > I was wondering, did you take arnica tablets before and after your > surgery?
