Re: one last stitch -- when will it come out?

Hi Maddie,

I had surgery the same day that you did. I asked my OS when I went in

two weeks ago if there were still stitches in there (actually I

really wanted to know if there is possibly a stitch under my splint

near my palate where my upper jaw was segmented that drives my tongue

crazy) but he misinterpreted my question and thought I was asking if

I had any stitches at all left. He said there shouldn't be any more,

that they should have dissolved already and that was at 4 weeks.

Turns out I still had 5-6 stitches lingering in there and he took

them all out for me.

As I recall from having my wisdom teeth out, there always seems to be

a stitch or two that hang around long after the rest dissolve. Don't

really understand why. It's interesting that your surgeon didn't take

it out last week for you. I don't think its a concern, but I totally

understand how it could be annoying! I would think your OS could

easily remove it for you if you asked her to. Removal was fast and

painless for me, and he just pulled on the strings!

I also had one stitch, right above my front upper teeth gumline, that

didn't come out. My gum even started growing over it, and I forgot

about it. But I sometimes felt a bit of pressure and one day, I saw a

little tiny piece sticking out, and I took some tweezers and took it

out myself. I know you're not supposed to do that!!! But it was

extremely small and it didn't bother me to remove it. Should you see

your surgeon, I'd ask him to remove it for you.
