Guest guest
Hi Tanja! I know what you mean about not wanting to fly back and forth to St. 's ~ I have to drive to Halifax for mine which is a good 6-7 hrs away, but at least I don't have to fly. I don't know how often I will have to go back either which is something I've been worrying about. Okay ~ to answer your questions now=) > What are you having done? I'm having upper moved forward, lower moved back, and possibly an expansion of my upper jaw. > What kinds of things have you done to prepare for your surgery in > regards to food, vitamins or exercise? This is something I have been struggling with ~ the crazy thing is that they don't give you *ANY* info about your surgery until about 1 week beforehand. So I have been looking online for info and I guess the best thing to do is take iron supplements and vitamin C for about a month before. I have been drinking a can of Boost pretty much everyday and (although lately I have been slacking off) I try to do pilates everyday. I want to be in pretty good health before my surgery so I heal okay. I'm a vegetarian and I want to be sure I'm not lacking any vitamins so Boost has come in handy! > What are you bringing with you to the hospital? I still have to figure this one out ~ but (even though they say you shouldn't in case it gets stolen) I am bringing my mp3 player b/c I NEED music ~ it will relax me and make the time go by quicker. Also, I want to get a whiteboard/marker for when I wake up in recovery. I guess I will bring a change of clothes and PJs etc, but food I haven't decided yet ~ Ensure, juice and vegetable broth since you have to be on a clear liquid diet for the first few days. Chapstick and moisturizer definitely! Probably a book and some crosswords although I don't know how much I'll be up to reading etc?! > What kinds of food things did you stock up on? Nothing so far! The week before I leave I'll probably get a couple cases of Ensure/Boost, and some juice ~ lots of canned soup. I guess I'll have to go from there, I still don't know exactly what I will be eating besides that?? Regular food only blenderized I reckon?!=) > Oh and the big question....How are you wrapping your head around >all of this now that your surgery date is very near?? LOLOL not very well ~ I am extremely nervous about it actually. I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed in the summer so at least I know what it's like to be put to sleep etc, which was nothing to worry about! I am trying to take things as they come, right now I have to focus on getting myself ready ~ buying all the things I need/want, making sure I get all my vitamins etc. That is keeping me occupied at the moment. This site really helps me too. It's scary to read a lot of the things I will be going through, but I'd rather be mentally prepared for it than have everything be a surprise! How are you guys coping with the storm? I heard Nfld got almost 100cm! I think we've got 40 so far, I'd better get out and shovel soon before more falls down. I'm kinda glad we're getting all our snow now, that's less of a chance for a huge storm when I go for my surgery in February!
