Guest guest
The people @ Cranial Technology said the DOCBand can improve my daughter's cephalic index (around 92%) but that nothing can be done about the sloped head due to brachycephaly (the rise from front to back so that a marble placed on the back of her head would roll toward the front). Hopefully the reduced flat head in the back would make the slope less noticeable. Can other bands treat this?
Guest guest
My daughter had brachy too, but she had more extra width and not as much height as you're describing. With any head shape you can direct growth to the flatter areas, but you cannot shrink the prominent areas. So the extra height will stay. However the docband will help improve the overall headshape so that the problems will be less noticeable. I don't think any other band will do a better job than this. Some people also treat with CST (cranial sacral therapy) in addition to banding. CST is an alternative treatment, and not proven, however many parents feel it helps. We treated my daughter with a starband. -christine sdyney, 3.5 yrs, starband grad > > The people @ Cranial Technology said the DOCBand can improve my daughter's cephalic index (around 92%) but that nothing can be done about the sloped head due to brachycephaly (the rise from front to back so that a marble placed on the back of her head would roll toward the front). Guest guest
For what it's worth, I worried about this with my 3 year old when we finished up his helmet. He still has a fairly sloped head and he can't balance things on top of it when he tries to while playing around. I quit worrying about it, though, when I took a minute to look at my husband and realized he, too, has a fairly tall head. Sometimes (as our orthotist commented to me), we know just enough to be dangerous. Please know I'm not trying to belittle your cocern, but just offer some perspective. -, Indianapolis--mom to Johann, age 3, and Anders, 5 months and likely soon-to-be banded > > > > The people @ Cranial Technology said the DOCBand can improve my daughter's cephalic index (around 92%) but that nothing can be done about the sloped head due to brachycephaly (the rise from front to back so that a marble placed on the back of her head would roll toward the front).
