Guest guest
My 3 1/2 year old daughter does the same thing. We often do some nursery rhymes with the finger play. I think it is good too. One it is mimicing. It's age appropriate. Plus the way we do it kind involves other aspects of speech. I will sing a line and then she sings a line. It's like having a conversation. Skinner in his theory of speech developement called this kind of speech intraverbal and it leands intself to conversation skills. Plus its taking turns, memory skills etc. She can now sing about 10 songs and I feel her other language has increased also. Sometimes I even get full sentences with pronouns and verbals: I want some juice, I want push. I also find she is now interested and able to pick up more complex songs like " over the rainbow " I can't tell you for sure if this will make language and their ability t function better but I think it is step in the right direction. More importantly we reinforce it and they enjoy it and that's makes all the difference. Plus its music and music can also help social skills Hope that helps.
