Thank you , it seems I am hearing more good things about it then bad. I

think I would have to go with the gastric bypass if I am to do this. Now what I

need to know is do they always do the surgery laprascopically these days? Also

what can I expect before pre surgically and after the surgery. Thanks..

I'd still be eating the same old crap. Besides that, the band isn't nearly

as effective for long term success. It seems to fail more often then not.

I wanted something that would be more effective over the long run. If I was

going to risk my life having a surgery to help me lose weight I wanted to do

the one that would help me forever. I could probably continue rambling on,

but for me it had to be the full Gastric Bypass surgery. I had my surgery

done Laparoscopically which means that instead of being cut from my chest

bone to my belly button I have five little less than 1 inch incisions. I

would do this surgery again in a heartbeat. I wouldn't even need to think

twice about it. Ultimately either surgery will change your life and both

are tools that you need to learn to use, but this tool has been incredible

for me.

e,

If you are just starting to do your investigating I would recommend that you

look into both options. I went into it pretty sure that I wanted the bypass

surgery and it's ultimately what I chose to do, but I still spent the time

looking into both procedures.

Pre surgury you will probably have your initial consult with a surgeon or

maybe even a few surgeons, a sleep apnia (spelling?) test, a psychological

evaluation and probably a consultation with a nutrition specialist.

Depending on what your insurance requires. Also they usually will do an

ultrasound and an EKG.

Post op was strange, but not too bad. Some pain, but mostly just discomfort

and being tired.

Why a sleep apnea test and pychological eval? I am diabetic and if I

go to long without eating my sugars drop to low, this concerns me

about the operation time and post op.

They take good care of you with the IV drip. Don't worry about your sugars.

Believe it or not, diabetes is a common problem in overweight adults. : )

The psychological evaluation is to make sure that you are ready for surgery.

They figure that most of us have some sort of mental eating disorder that

got us here in the first place and they like to try to find out what that is

before surgery to make it easier after. And the sleep test is to make sure

that you don't need a breathing machine. Again, a lot of overweight adults

have sleeping disorders and they don't want you to stop breathing durring

the surgery. That would be a bad thing!

I only had to have an ekg and had to breathe into a machine to make

sure my lungs were strong enough for the surgery. I was approved in

two weeks with just that. After the approval, my surgeon had me do

a lot of lab work to make sure everything is ok to have surgery and

also a gall bladder sonogram. I go in Wednesday to get all of those

results and Next Monday is the big day for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can I

also admit I am beginning to get sooooooooooooooo very nervous?
