I was diagnosed with IBS/spastic colon before surgery and I still can get a

'spastic colon attack' as a post-op. HOWEVER, these are not accompanied by

diahhrea. I only had loose bowels in the first three weeks post-op. They

were never uncontrollable for me and evened out to two times a day: In the

early a.m. (hated those! LOL) and upon waking in the a.m.

Now, they are daily and regular -- once or twice in the a.m. upon waking

(except if I'm really stressed out or eat something that doesn't agree with

me - then I can go more frequently -- like from once in the a.m. to another

in the afternoon or evening. Nothing severe, though). I'm not saying

everyone who has spastic colon doesn't have diahhrea, but it was always my

experience that I was constipated rather than had diahhrea. Go figure! LOL

I can have attacks of abdominal gas (rare for me but when it happens -

ouch!), but this is not accompanied by diahhrea, either. Once the gas works

out, I'm fine. Same goes for flatulence -- at times it can be potent but I

haven't had an chronic problems with it.

I definately would say I'm one of the extremely lucky ones, but I just wanted

to say that I haven't experienced diahhrea as a post-op. I have had some

painful gas/bloating on occasion and flatulence but that's about it! :) I

drink milk and eat dairy products daily and haven't had lactose intolerance,

either.

all the best,
