Many, if not most, of us have braces for the second, third, even fourth

time in prep for the surgery.

I believe the usual time is about 16 to 18 months, but it can be

shorter or longer, to amazing degrees. Some folks even have arch bars

instead of braces, as the don't need orthodontics before surgery.

That's really unusual, though -- as are the folks who are in braces

three or four years before or after surgery.

You're right. Your ortho and surgeon can give you the best

guesstimates. But that said, even those can be notoriously unreliable,

although my ortho was absolutely on target.
