Guest guest
Sue, I've been getting acupuncture done for about 9 weeks now and I've had no migraines in 3.5 weeks. I was having 5-6 severe migraines a week prior to beginning this treatment, and there was discussion of putting me on Depakote, a path I really didn't want to travel. It might be worth it to look into " alternative " treatment for your migraines. I was not willing to commit to a life on drugs with a whole collection of nasty side effects and questionable long-term safety until I turned over every stone, and it's too early to say the migraines are gone for good but I really do feel that a cloud has been lifted from my life. To answer your question: migraines or kidney stones -- MIGRAINES. At least there's medicine that works to take them away. The kidney stones, you just suffer (and suffer I did!) But I am always blowing in the wind ) Seriously though folks...here's my problem du jour. Been having bad lower back pain for well over a week now, getting progressively worse. But yet not like any back pain I've had before. It just plain hurts to move. If I stay still it's ok, but any movement hurts. And yes, that includes even straining for a BM. Anywho, I asked our PA at work, what the heck was it that was kicking me in the back? Was that where my kidneys were? Was I getting an infection? He said no, my kidneys were more out to the sides, this was where my ureters were. He pauses, says... " have you ever had kidney stones? " Let me add here that besides his wife, I'm the only other person knows who takes Topamax for migraines. At this point you could audibly hear the light bulb turn on. I said to him, " I'm screwed, aren't I? " He said, yup, it's the topamax. So what now? No topamax and I get migraines. I've found that days that I've missed it by accident the headaches have come roaring back. So it seems I must take it as it's the only thing that works. And I'm really ok with taking pills, that's not the problem. Here's the problem. The bottle says to take with a full glass of water. And again, I don't have a problem with water. I drink about a gallon a day. But I have a theory about me. Tell me if it's stupid or not. You see, now when I get full, or feel food in me, I feel it in my lower abdomen. So I believe that while my pouch is still fine, and my opening to my pouch is just dandy (as told by the times I get food stuck) I think that I probably empty quickly. Again, because of where I feel full, the amount of food I can now eat, and what it takes for me to puke now (it's not as easy as it once was...seems it has to travel from my toes!) So when I take my meds, I take them with just a swallow of water. I don't drink 8 or 12 ounces of water with them because I don't want to wash them out of my pouch. I want them to hang around there and at least have a chance to absorb just a little before passing through on their journey. I've never seen any floating around in the toilet, but I must confess that I haven't actively looked either! So chances are that this unrelenting back pain is some sort of kidney stone formation or passing...and it is somewhat self induced. Hmmm, just thought about it too, I just increased the dosage of topamax about 2 weeks ago and it's been over a week that I've had this back pain. Guess they are working! Ok, when will this pain go away? Do you think my theory is correct? (I don't get an UGI till Oct) Can my meds get absorbed ok in the GI tract? (150 cm bypassed) Which would you rather have, migraine or kidney stones?
