Guest guest
> How many days or weeks did you drink just liquids? i'd say about a 1-1.5 weeks of just carnation instant breakfast and shakes. i had my surgery dec 18, 1997. so by the time christmas came around i was feeling better and creative with a blender. > I know you shouldn't diet, but how much weight did most people lose? i lost 15 lbs the first week. after that i started to eat some again and balanced out a bit. my doctors required me to gain weight the summer before, because i was small and they were afraid of me dropping below 100 lbs. > How much care did you need from others the day or days after surgery? everything, but i was 16 at the time and my mother was with me every moment. something i'll never forget. > How many days did you wait before you felt ok to drive? sorry, i don't know. i didn't have a license then. > Were you wired, banded, or splinted, and for how long? i was splinted and wired both thru the braces and skelatal wiring for 8 weeks. then about 2 weeks of bands after that. GOOD LUCK!
Guest guest
Cheri, 1. I think they ask you to be on liquid diet for a day or 2, and then you can start eating blended food. I have to tell you that after my first few sips of chicken broth in the hospital (not the best variety, I have to mention) I felt very nauseaus because of anesthesia and threw up a bloody mess - nurses loved it! So go slow in the beginning. 2. I'm one week postop, and I lost about 6-7 pounds. I think I eat a lot though - I'm always hungry . 3. I had someone with me (husband or mother) for the first week. I felt very weak and dizzy. I would definitely have somebody help you for the first week, after that depends on how your recovery goes. 4. I still don't think I'm OK to drive, but I might venture out tomorrow somewhere. 5. I'm neither wired, nor banded, but I do have a split that is wired to my upper braces - I can't take it out. I'm going to my first post-op appointment today, and will probably get banded. Hope this helps. Good luck with your surgery.
