Guest guest
Hi all, Let me introduce myself. My name is Phoebe Kane aka Pheebs. I will be 66 years old tomorrow May 18th. I have been a lurker here for months. It is a year TODAY May 17th that I had my lap RNY at Mt. Sinai, NYC with Dr. Herron. I have lost 86 lbs as of this am. Slow but sure! Of course, my whole life has changed. Last year this time, I was walking with a walker from room to room. We had an aid helping take care of my partially paralyzed 93-year-old mom and myself. This March we dismissed the aid! I now can cook, clean, shop, do the wash and take complete care of mom and myself! It is unbelievable the difference this has made in my life. I will probably still need to have my knees replaced as I did so much damage to them with my years of MO. My meds have all been cut in half. I take 3-5 units of insulin am and pm instead of 25. Hopefully soon I will not have to take any. While researching WLS 2 years ago, I realized the need for an older group of WLS people. I just did not relate to many on the AMOS group. I found that there are different concerns we oldies have. So I started a group on Yahoo. We are 50 and older and called " The Oldies of WLS " or " TOOWLS " . Fay and Corrine on the grad list are members. I don't know if anyone else is. I may have missed one or two. We are a great caring and knowledgeable group. Join us if you like. Just email me and I will send you an invite. I have been itching to be able to contribute here also. What a great group of people! Talk about knowledge! You have it for sure. I have learned much just lurking! And laughs oh my. I have spent much time chuckling from the things you all write about. I want to thank you and I am thrilled to be able to join you at long last and hope to contribute to this great group! JUST A FEW THINGS I CAN DO NOW A YEAR AFTER WLS: Sit in any chair Get up out of a chair without help Walk without my walker Take a shower standing up My thighs don't rub together Get in and out of my car with ease I can put on my sneakers myself and tie them I can put my bra on the " right way " (not closed first and over my head) So many more too many to list and I want to post this now. So thanks for being there for all of us pre posters and now I can call myself a " graduate " . Looking forward to talking with all you great people often LUV N HUGS PHEEBS 5/17/02 ~ RNY LAP DR.
