Hi there-

They're not making it just from pictures, it's called Digital

Surface Imaging (DSi) and it's a 3D scan of the baby's head. It is

just as accurate if not better than a plaster casting. Here is some

information on it:

Plagiocephaly/files/DOCBand%

Even though Conn. has only had it for 2 months (they were one of the

last ones to get it), it's been in the workings for something like

10 years and has been tested and used many times. The

therapists/techs at CT in Conn. have been trained on using it, but

also the techs at CT headquarters who actually take the image and

work out how the band should be made are highly trained individuals

that have been using the system for quite a while. The system was

designed to replicate the designs of the creator of the DOCBand,

Jeanne Pomatto-Hertz, and how she would hand design each band by

hand. The scan is taken at the office in Conn. and then sent

electronically to AZ and they look over it all and make sure it has

captured everything it needs to before they go forward with making

the band. So I really think you're in good hands with CT and the

DSi. My son's first band was made from plaster and his second was

made from the DSi (the very first week Charlotte got it) and both

fit him perfectly.

Hope that helps. Good luck!
