>> I have toyed with the idea of asking if I can get 1/2 portions. If I was

in

management at one of these places I would give that option. Call it a lite

eaters menue.

I had responded to the original question privately about the restaurant

card, but it's been my experience that most restaurants will let you have a

reduced portion, or if you tell them you want your take-home box at the

beginning of the meal, they will bring it.

We have a diner here in town that is just super -- apparently one of their

cooks had a bypass and went on to tell the wait staff what to expect other

post-op's to order. I went in one day and asked if I could order off the

senior menu because I'd had a bypass, and the waitress said I could have any

of the specials of the day in a smaller portion if I wanted, at a greatly

reduced price. I wanted one of their fantastic burgers, and she offered to

have them hold the bun, and replace the fries with a salad or veggie! WOW!

We're becoming mainstream. Almost everywhere I go, if I tell the

waiter/waitress I've had a bypass and would like to order from the senior

menu, they're good with it. I order senior instead of kid's menu, because I

get grown up food in smaller portions, instead of the kids' choices which

are usually things like macaroni & cheese and corn dogs. You can have the

special of the day in a senior portion, and it might be something yummy that

you really wanted, you just didn't want so much of it!
