Guest guest
Well, it seems to me that there are a number of people here who have reflux problems. Mine has been recurring for nearly 21 years, since surgery. I saw my PCP today, again, for this problem. In the last 2 years, I have had an endoscopy, a coloscomy, been treated for H. Pylori (twice), taken who knows how many medications, and STILL I have a problem. In my mind, it is serious. As a result of this problem, I have lost all my teeth, and now have dentures. I regurgitate bile several times a week, often in the middle of the night, and get up with a burning lump in my chest nearly every morning. I sleep with my head/upper body elevated as prescribed. I have changed my diet. It didn’t help. I asked my doctor for another scope, to check again for staple line disruption, and for gall bladder tests and an incompetent pyloric sphinter (I’m beginning to think the only “Incompetent” here is my PCP). He decided that I need another medication. Protonix (a proton pump inhibitor). BUT even if it works, my insurance will only pay for it for 56 days. Then what? I’m about disgusted with the whole system. Doctors keep telling me I shouldn’t have reflux, but they can tell, from my scopes, that I DO. But they can’t seem to fix it. I hate to think I need surgery, but I believe that a transaction and having my gall bladder out would probably help a lot. On a brighter note, since I’ve been on this list, I’ve become more conscious of the carbs I eat. And I’ve found that the amount wasn’t nearly as high as I thought it was, but higher than it ought to be. I’ve cut the amount WAY down. And I’ve lost 6 lbs since my last check up 3 months ago. Now, I hope that bathing suit I bought isn’t too big. <VBG> My hubby is taking me to San next week for a short vacation, at a 4 star hotel on the River Walk, and I’d like to swim in it without it coming off, or looking like Miss Droopy Drawers when I get out of the pool.
