Surgery postponed because of common cold?

I am getting a minor cold w/ sore throat. My surgery is scheduled

for February 1st. I have my pre-surgical appt tomorrow and plan to

ask my surgeon if the surgery will continue even if my cold doesn't

subside by next week. In the meantime, has anyone's surgery been

postponed because of having a common cold?

Hi ,

Mine wasn't postponed, but I came verrry close for the exact same

reason -- though my cold was really pretty bad, and it sounds

(luckily!) that yours isn't quite as severe. My primary care doc

suggested lots of zinc to fight it off (and, because I'm prone to

upper respiratory infections, she actually gave me a pre-emptive

course of antibiotics, which she said she almost never did but was

happy to make an exception in my case). So by the tine I saw my

surgeon about 3 or 4 days later (exactly one week before the

surgery), I was on the mend enough that he felt comfortable going

ahead with it.

Good luck (and you know the drill -- get lots of rest and fluids in

the meantime)!
