By comparison the Biliopancretic diversion was first done by Scopinaro in 1978 and the Roux-En-Y gastric bypass was first done by Mason in 1969. The Jejernal-Ilial (intestinal) Bypass was first done in 1954. So the DS is not " new " , though it may be new to some doctors and even suregons. Dr. Marceau has done over 1000 BPD/DS procedures since 1991. Anthone did his first one in 1992 and I belive Rabkin started around the same time. Regarding the insurance claim that the DS is " investigational " , I have a letter written on this subject which you can find in the Files section under " Hull's Folder " entitled " Aetna Letter " .
