Hi Everyone,

Well, first of all I would like to thank everyone who wrote me with

support and advice on my possible fistula and sld. It sure means alot

and you guys are really the only ones that truly understand. Although

my husband and two friends that I told try to understand, unless you

have been through this surgery and gotten your life back, you don't

realize the fear of losing your life again and the fear of gaining

weight. For those of you who don't know my story, lap rny 8/99. 180

pound loss. Dr. in Wentzville, Mo. Recently gained 35-40 pounds

since January while still exercising, playing on a hockey team and

protein shakes. I didn't get the full feeling anymore but do get

nausea, stomach acid and pain. After many attempts to try and get

help from my docs finally they finally agreed to a scope. Had it

Friday and here are the results. Fisutla connecting pouch to distal

stomach(old stomach). The gastroesophageal junction appeared normal.

Prior gastric pouch with Gastrojejunostomy at 2 o'clock. Opening

adequate with scope passing easily into Jejunostomy. There was

another opening, just past the EG junction at 9 o'clock which opened

into the remaining stomach. Surgical material evident (seam guard)

and disrupted being attached at one end.

So according to the specialist(not surgeon) this is why I am a

gaining weight and all other symptoms. I will have appt with Dr.

on 14th. Specialist said docs don't like to fix this kind of

thing as it is dangerous and has to be done open.

The waiting is killing me because I have so many other irons in the

fire. Paralegal program, college and finding a job since I got laid

off from major telecommunications company in March. Thanks for

listening and any and all advice is welcome!

Debbie in St. Louis
