Guest guest
We did CST in conjunction with the helmet. Because of the timing, we were able to document a 1 percent point improvement in her brachy after three sessions prior to her getting the helmet. It was recommended to us by our cranial specialist, who did say that there was some evidence that it helped. Now, she did not recommend that we skip banding, but felt that using the two together was the best route to go. I recently contacted her again because I wanted more improvement and she recommended that we do some additional CST since will get little improvement from a helmet at her age. I have an appointment for August 3rd for a booster session. While I do believe that the CST helped in our case, I wouldn't have done it alone. In other words, I'm not that confident in it working that I'd be willing to risk losing out on the chance for a helmet. Now, if she were 4 to 6 months old, I might have tried it for a month first, but I'd be scheduling appointments so that we could move right to a helmet if needed. , mom to , 23 months STARband grad May 2009 land Re: Craniosacral manipulation!?!? Some people do cranial sacral therapy (CST). It is considered an alternative treatment for plagio (as in alternative medicine). Some people swear it works, but it doesn't have good scientific studies to back it up. To me it is a bit of hocus pocus, but I don't see any harm doing it along with banding, and it may help. However I would be reluctant to skip banding and do only CST. With CST there is very gentle pressure put on on the baby - they say it is the weight of a nickle - to manipulate the cerebro-spinal fluid (this is how I remember the description). You can search old messages from CST; you'll find a lot.It is good that you're getting pt for the tort, since that is key. Unless your child is very young & /or very mild plagio I would seriously consider banding too. -christinesydney, 3.5 yrs, starband grad>> My husband and I just took our son to another doctor today for a second opinion on his condition (again seeking some sort of eval. for wether or not he needed the helmet therapy). Instead this doc. instantly recommended pt for torticolis (which was a new discovery for us) and then cranial manipulation to correct the shape of his head. This sort of manipulation just sounds like it has some really bad mojo to me! But my husband is all for it. I am in the midst of researching it right now. Can anyone lend me any info. on this sort of procedure. Is it good? bad? or ugly?>
