Guest guest
I believe it's the nicotine in the cigarettes that affects the UC, not the smoking itself. Docs are finding that some smokers do have UC but that the nicotine is masking some of their symptoms. So when someone tries to quit (yay!), they start feeling those UC symptoms (boo!). Research is still being done (like blind studies with nicotine patches) but I believe the current thinking is that it can help in a flare but isn't good for maintenance of the disease. Plus there are side effects from the nicotine just like any other drug. Stacey > > Hi All, > Reaching out the the UC folks on the SCD who may have quit smoking. Though doctors have scred me into thinking I got sick because I had stopped smoking at the time, I just know this is not the case...thugh the research on smoking and UC is compelling... What possible positive benefit could cigarettes have? I am starting to think its because of poor dies, and having been on SCD for almost 4 years now... there has got to be a way to be ok as a non-smoker. > Does anyone have success stories in this direction??? Will i have to forge the path...? > I will say this, I'm not afraid of the non-smoking, just of the things I've read and my perfect gut condition being rocked by quitting! > Sooooo appreciated!!!!! > Dana > > possible uc? 4.5 years > scd 4 years > no meds >
