Guest guest
Hello everyone! I am back from vacation and taking two more days off work to recover. Kauai was GREAT! We did most of our swimming at night to avoid excess sun exposure (my brother has had 4 melanoma surgeries and I am a prime candidate!), and it also allowed me to feel more relaxed because so few people were around to parade in front of in a swim suit. The beach cover up thingy I made worked great too! On our last day we went on a catamaran cruise of the coast and did a little snorkeling (and I do mean little). We were all bunched up together on this boat, elbow to elbow, and I strutted my stuff with the others-and did it modestly. I don't remember having so much fun in a swim suit since I was 8 years old! I finally ditched the snorkel-mask-and fins for my favorite goggles and nose plug, and went back into the water for my own brand of fun. I hate snorkels, and my hubby has a thick moustache-so he about drowned with the mask. We also took a helicopter tour of the island. If I was the " old me " at 256 or higher, that never would have happened. The seats were small and there is a load limit. I WAS THRILLED. I had been promised a helicopter ride by a friend when I was 8 years old (I flew with my dad in fixed wing single engine planes since I was in diapers) and patiently waited until I got off my crutches at age 16 to collect my ride-but it never happened. This was a dream come true for me. Awesome!! We had two authentic Hawaiian functions during our stay, and both times native dancers performed. Yours truly got up both times and tried to keep up with the pros. Honestly, I would have done that at any size (I really am an extrovert), but it was a lot more fun and much easier at 177 pounds. Dale and I bought matching Hawaiian clothes for the main event, and looked cute together! During the other two evenings that featured bands, Dale and I got up to start the dancing-and he doesn't usually dance! We didn't dance much, but I did get to cut a rug with his boss. All in all I had a fabulous time in Kauai. New York was also a great experience. Visiting my family was the best. My parents have been divorced for years-and there has always been super charged emotions among the siblings and my parents. To make a long story short, I repaired a lot of relationship damage from years back and spent some quality time with my dad, mom, and sister. FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER I was smaller than my sister who is 18 mos my junior, and I am smaller than my mother for the first time since I was about 6!! EVERYONE was amazed when they saw me. My brother in law openly gawked-shook his head repeatedly-and smiled. There were few words, but his smile said it all. Everyone was very happy for me and the changes in my life. My hubby was a BIG hit too! Dale is loved by all he meets-and my family was no exception. He helped my dad with some work around the house (dad is on oxygen 24/7 now due to emphazema-spelling?) and was grateful for the hand. Of course, he insisted on letting Dale drive his old Cadillac, and they went to breakfast daily for " heart attack on a plate " at the local greasy spoon. I abstained. While I was on vacation I ate anything I wanted-including the forbidden carbs-but in small " taste " portions. Fresh fruit....how wonderful! I used my head (except with some chocolate covered macadamia nuts! oops) and actually lost a pound!!! VICTORY. Now I am back home, getting serious about getting back in the groove of reality. I need to lose another 25 or 30 pounds, so here goes! Thank you all for your support, encouragement, well wishes, and advice. I couldn't have been so enthused without your help. This truly is a great group! Please forgive me, because I must delete a lot of email without reading it due to my time away-so if anyone addressed me personally since 6/4, and I didn't respond, I am apologizing now. Write again!
