Guest guest
We're worried that we may be running out of time with the Starband type of helmet. We're pretty sure our ortho is as good as anyone who uses Starband and we like him. Should we think about switching our 16mo to Docband? There are some claims that Docband may take better advantage of what remaining growth we have at this age, and is sometimes effective on older babies. Not sure whether to stick with it or think about switching. Any experiences would be really appreciated. Thanks,
Guest guest
Hi , If I were to do it again, I think I would have switched to a DOCband at 18.5 months, when our ortho was encouraging us to stop rather than pushing to continue. I'd have gotten in four more months rather than two. Of course, your baby is a little younger so I'm not sure what to advise. I think I would just go into CT and meet with them and see what they suggest. If they'd be more willing to band a baby at 16 or 17 months, then I would definately do it. Once you switch to the DOCband, you are looking at ony 4 more months. By the way, the clinician I met with didn't say that she'd refuse treatment at older than 16 months, she just said that she wouldn't recommend it because the amount of growth isn't worth the money. What's worth the money is an individual decision so I don't worry about that kind of statemtn. She then showed me a bunch of before and after pictures in a book to illustrate the small amounts of growth for older babies. I honestly feel that I could see growth even at the 21 month pictures. If 's head were more severe, I would have pushed for banding and I think that they probably would have done it. In our case, I was so pleased with the hand measurements and the photostudy pictures that I decided to just let it go. We are pursuing more CST in the hopes of getting a little bit more rounding. , mom to , 23 months STARBand grad land Basic question - switch from Starband to Docband for older baby? We're worried that we may be running out of time with the Starband type of helmet.
