Guest guest
I walk every other day for 2 miles. I also jog but can only jog for 1 mile now. I get winded and my energy is still not completely up. I would really like to get into weights now but haven't because I fear muscle mass at this point. I haven't weighed myself in quite awhile (May 06- 161 lbs) but I do know that I have lost weight because I went from a size 16 to a 14 pants. And I am wearing t-shirts (L) rather loosely now. Does anyone do situps? I have not started that because was afraid it would hurt my stomach area. Please advise. Aug 8 will be my 1 year anniversary. I am looking forward to that date. I have come a long way, baby...hee hee. JuniorLLLORY@... wrote: So, what's everyone doing for exercise? how long? how often? is anyone not exercising and maintainingor continuing to lose? Guest guest
Laurie, Okay before I wasnt exercising routinely. I would walk for a week, take a few off, do a video a couple times not do it for along while. But now for 3 weeks I have FAITHFULLY every day walked. I meet a friend at 530 Monday-Friday and our walk is 2.8 miles and we do it in 50 minutes. Saturday & Sunday I walk 4.2 miles and it takes me an hour and 10 minutes. Now I konw I dont have to walk EVERYDAY but I love the routine and I feel like if I take one day then one might turn to two.... Today we just incorporated 3 lb hand weights walking. Today I am going to start a cardio video and my goal is to do that 3 x a week. Guest guest
Hello Everyone, This is my first post but I've been reading in the background and enjoying it tremendously! This is a awesome and very supportive and educating group. I'm just 2 mos and few days post surgery (5/3 Kaiser Richmond). I re-started my exercise routine by walking immediately after surgery every day for at least 30 mins - 2 hrs. Upon approval of my doc at my 3wk post visit I go to the gym 5 days a week, 2 days are with a personal trainer (strength, core muscles and stabilization training) and 3 days are classes (aerobic, abs, strength/cardio, kickboxing, step class to name a few). Due to my age (45) and being overweight my entire life I am trying to minimize the elasticity issues I have especially around my huge flapping arms, tummy, breasts......oh heck my whole body.....I live is Fair Oaks and go to 24hr fitness in Roseville and Folsom if anyone is interested in joining me. Have a wonderful day everyone! Aloha and Mahalo, Cathy 343/260/145 > > So, what's everyone doing for exercise? how long? > how often? is anyone not exercising and maintaining > or continuing to lose? Guest guest
Laurie, to be quite honest, I have not exercised in months and that is not a positive thing. I have manage to maintain which has been great. My day begins at 3:45 am and I don't get home until after 6:00 (around 6:30ish). My husband does not get home until 8:30 pm. When I am done with dinner, and little chores around the house, it is roughly 9:00/9:30 and I am tired so I do not work out. During my lunch, I often will work while I eat which is not good. I know that if I rearranged my scheduled (so how) I would probably lose more but at this point in my life, I don't want to lose anymore. As it is, I am wearing a size 8 petite and a size small shirt. In some instances the small shirts were too big and now my 8s are very loose but I am not going to buy smaller clothes. So for now, until I can get a break in my schedule, I will continue and be mindful of what I eat and continue to maintain. I might try and go for a 30 minute walk at lunch since I work on the Lake in downtown Oakland. Whatever you do, be encouraged. It will happen for you. Guest guest
I walk two miles, three days a week (jogging would be way too much impact on my knees!) and bike five miles on the other days. It's helped me maintain. (07/30 will be my 3-year rebirthday.) I also do some exercises that I got from my P.T. Alyson. I also dance alot around the house. I find that just movement helps. I wasn't sure if you are a post or pre op. I am post op. So now I can do more strength training. I was afraid to build up muscle before the surgery. Good luck! Bobbie

Guest guest
Hi JuniorI am an over active person. I keep up on all the yard work myself, mow, weed, just moved 700 pounds of sand around my play yard. I run an in home daycare business, with 6 little ones, soon to be up to 8 little ones. I keep a house and business running. I walk up to the park every day about 2 blocks away, then while the children are playing there's a sidewalk in a circle around the playground I walk for an hour, then walk the children home (this is about 2 miles). While they sleep I sweep, mop, and all I can do in the house. I do swim aerobics Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7 to 8 pm. I ride my bicycle 1 or 2 nights depending on my schedule. Over the last 2 months I've been painting my bedroom, the garage, and moving furniture around on the nights that I do have free, and going up and down that ladder and squatting is a work out in it self. I missed swim and all these last 2 weeks I was on vacation, still did a lot of walking, but don't have as much energy when I don't work out. I really am use to it and love it. I'm not trying to lose any more I am a size 6, 138 pounds and am happy to stay here. Yes I did crunches before surgery, then started back at them 3 months after surgery, then I started really hurting I was scared I had torn my pouch, it hurt bad, went to the PCP and he said to stop I had really pulled a muscle. So I waited until 7 months out and tried again, it started to pull again. I gave up on this, now I'm 14 months out, but with the swim aerobics and it works everything I haven't gone back to sit ups or crunches. Plus with all the lifting of sand, moving furniture and painting, I think I'm doing more than enough. I just really fixing up my house and trying to get done before I start back to college in Aug. I will have the whole inside done except 2 bedrooms, the garage all painted and new shelves and reorganized, the outside all fresh paint, play yard back in really good shape, and my other 2 yard (front and back) all weeded, trimmed and cleaned and flowers planted by 2 weeks. So I'm going to try to head back to swim aerobics Monday the 10Th. Then once college starts I will not work on fix up stuff, just maintaining yards and house, then just do swim aerobics 3 nights a week, college 2 nights and homework the other 2 nights. So depending what your life has in it, the schedule, we need to be flexible and figure what works in the way of exercise and try not to just give in to not doing any. Just do the best you can and some is better than none. Take care. Donna J Junior wrote: I walk every other day for 2 miles. I also jog but can only jog for 1 mile now. Guest guest
Water aerobics at the YMCA, 4-5 times per week. I honestly think that exercise is the ONLY thing that gets me to lose weight consistantly. Guest guest
if you are one year out you are six months late at least in starting those crunches and sit-ups! Go for it! Guest guest
Tim brings up a good point, Many of us have eroded cartilage in our knees in particular from years of carrying excess weight. Even if we CAN jog or run, it may be better for us to walk, use the elliptical, or do water aerobics. Guest guest
Thanks for the reply Pam. I know it is hard to find the time. I've used that as an excuse (not saying you are), but I spend so much time at the computer, I could be using some of that time to take care of me. This list is so very important to my wellbeing, I just love it. Laurie __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Cathy C, four to five times a week is great! I've been doing three, but I did go yesterday and today...two days in a row! So woohoo for me! My daughter is starting to enjoy Fitzone (the program for kids six and older at my gym) She used to cry, but now she wants to go, so we will be going more often now that I don't have to fight the tears or whining. It really helps the recovery to walk right after surgery. I would only walk to the hall and the bathroom stuff like that. Once I got home I made goals, like to the front door, to the front gate, to the end of the block. It took me about 2 weeks to make it farther than 6 houses. I am just now walking more than 6 blocks at a time. I figure the more I 'move' the better it will be. I walk dogs for the Milo Foundation. That is my motivation. I can take a small dog or an older dog and take a slow and steady walk. I can't afford a gym membership or have the room for exercise equiptment. So if you can find a dog and walk to your hearts content. Have great Weekend everybody! Bobbie Milofoundation.org
Guest guest
Laurie, Thanks for your response. Shrinkage would be the best word I can use to describe my progress. I was real aggresive in my work outs about 3 mos prior to surgery in an effort to minimize my risks. I've continued this momentum post surgery since I am very focused on reaching my goal. Based on my body type I am loosing from the bottom up. I've gone down about 2 pant sizes and 1 shirt size. My energy level is really good and I feel much happier. This is my journey and I know everyone is different. I wish only the best to you and everyone here in this group... If you or anyone needs any encouragement cheering up or a kind ear if you just want to vent please feel free to Instant message or email me on yahoo at ckh1277. Don't be shy, we're all in this together.... Much Aloha Cathy 343/260/145 > > > Cathy, wow! What a great and wonderfully varried > exercise routine! How is it changing your body?
