Hello! I'm new to the group. My daughter is in a hanger helmet for plagio &

brachy. She has measurements of 92% and a 6 mm assymetricality. She was pretty

borderline as to whether she needed the helmet, but we decided to move forward.

It is estimated that she'll only be in the helmet for 6-8 weeks.

She's been in the helmet for 5 days now and we are following the break-in

schedule from hanger (increasing the amount of time she wears it each day

gradually over a week). So far, it has not been going well. She is extremely

fussy and HATES laying down or having her head lean against anything while

wearing the helmet (this solicits screaming). She doesn't seem to have any rub

marks on her head. I feel like this helmet has stolen my happy child and that we

are in for weeks of hell.

Did anyone have this problem with their baby? Does anyone have any

recommendations as to how to make the transition easier for her? So far, anyone

I've talked to in person says that their baby didn't mind the helmet at all. My

daughter HATES it! Help!!!!

Welcome to the group. Sorry your baby is having such a hard time adjusting. My

daughter got her band at 5 mo old and did pretty good in it. She quickly got

used to it, but sleeping was a little tough, and we ended up cosleeping.

However, it sounds like your baby is having an even harder time, and this might

not help you (even if you were okay with cosleeping). I would still encourage

you to stick with it. Talk to your ortho to see if there is any adjustment

he/she can make. Maybe if the baby lies down in the office with the band on they

can see if it is pushing on any area that would make it uncomfortable. It might

just be getting used to the new sensation, which takes a little time for some

babies.

Please keep us updated, and I hope it gets easier.
