Guest guest
Misty..glad you had a great appointment! January isn't that far away! I hope I can lose the 10% and have surgery either the end of this year or right after the first of next year. Thanks for the info about Sacramento and SSF. I knew Richmond was on overload but it was still hard to be patient! I had my orientation yesterday. It was really good to go and get all that info. Dr Baggs came in to talk to us and we also had a guest speaker who had been through the process and he told his story. It was nice to talk to and hear from someone who had been through it. Now I am waiting for an appt with the nutritionist and that should be within the next 4wks and then a couple weeks after that I should have an appt with the surgeon. Have no clue when the psych appt is but I'm sure that won't be overlooked. Now I need to start the 1200 cal diet and I am having a hard time getting started. I'm sure once I clear out all the junk out of my house and go shopping for stuff that I am allowed the temptation won't be there anymore. Hope you are doing well Misty and let us know when you get an orientation date! Connie Sacramento

Guest guest
Unfortunately no but my dad went with me. My husband was originally going to go but then he decided he really needed to go to work. As I was about to walk out the door my son started vomiting so he ended up having to stay home to take care of him because we couldn't take him to the sitter. I hope to take him to the other appointments though..especially the one with the nutritionist so that he can learn to make foods for me to eat (he's my chef!). Anyways, taking your husband would be a great idea. The class is supposed to be 3hrs but it didn't actually last that long. Connie
Guest guest
MistyYou're on your way now. Good luck and take care. Donna JMisty wrote: Hey everyone - I had my first appt this morning with Beth in Richmond. She was awesome, and said I was an ideal candidate for the surgery. She gave me the time line for how everything will go now, and she said dependant on how long it takes me to lose my 10% I could probably look at early January for surgery (yay!). She said I should get my orientation date within the next 2 weeks, and gave me her direct line to call her if I didn't hear back from them in the time line she gave me. So then we talked about why the process had taken so long for me. She said that all the patients in the Sacramento area pretty much got screwed by SSF. That because Sacramento does none of the pre qual or psych evals, all referrals got sent to SSF to process - and SSF (which is small she said) got really behind. So all the Sacramento area patients got more or less pushed to the side, then eventually pawned off on Richmond. She said Richmond is trying really hard to accomodate all the Sacramento area patients that have been waiting a while, and have been bumping them ahead of recent new referrals (god I would hope so!) Guest guest
Connie Orientation is over, get rid of the junk stuff right to the trash, and start the 1200 calorie plan rather than waiting until the junk is eaten because then it will add to what you need to lose. Just my thought. Good luck and take care. Donna JConnie Brenner wrote: Misty..glad you had a great appointment! January isn't that far away! Guest guest
Misty If he is your support person, then I strongly advice you to. It is really good to have someone with you, they will hear things you don't, they will understand what you will go through, and it gives you someone to talk to about what you hear and think. Good luck and take care. Donna JMisty wrote: Connie, did your husband go with you to orientation? Guest guest
Misty, My husband has been to EVERY appointment with me starting with Orientation. It's been a great help to him, to understand what I'm going through. I heard in one of the classes (or maybe it was a support group meeting?) that the divorce rate for gastric bypass patients is kind of high. I think that part of that has to do with not understanding the process, and part has to do with (either us or them) not being able to understand/process the emotional changes we go through. By having my husband there, and being such an important part, I'm hoping he can understand and we can avoid some of those problems. Just my two cents... a
Guest guest
my husband said he wants to come with me to all the appts, his comment to me was even though I will be the one having the surgery - its the both of us that are going to go through this life changing journey. It was the first time he had been 100% behind me in doing this, because up until yesterday he was real non chalant about it all > > Misty, > > My husband has been to EVERY appointment with me starting with > Orientation. Guest guest
aActually the divorce rate is high with WLS because so many of us have behavior problems when we are obese. We feel we have to please people, don't know when to say no, do everything for people, so many of us have no boundaries, no self esteem, are co-dependent, have depression, have anger, that's why this long journey is so wonderful and having to see a psychologist and having a support person, if married husband is best and yes it's wonderful they learn all that you will be going through, it helps them understand you as you change. In my case my husband has mental illness, very secure with me heavy, and I was co-dependent to him (no one else) but I didn't do anything that might set of depression, anger, anxiety, I was always giving up things I wanted to do, or people I wanted to see, and always walking on egg shells to make his life the best I could. As you lose the weight and life gets better for you, your self esteem gets better, some peoples depression goes away or gets better, you learn you are worth more and when I started going to exercise and see friends my husband felt I didn't care about him any more, he said I changed to much, the story goes on and on, more problems came, his anger got worse, his psychiatrist and psychologist both told him it was the way he was looking at things, I had a right to not be co-dependent and have my own boundaries, to have self esteem and still be a good wife, but he didn't like what they said and decided he wanted out of a 24 year marriage. I started my divorce this week, he found someone else, now that I have he feels maybe he made a mistake. Well there's no turning back for me. I love that man, gave him my heart, would of followed him to the end of the world, but know seeing a psychologist I know I can do better, be happier and live a much fuller life for me, and someday with someone new and it will be so much better. My heart was crushed, but it is for the best. So you see marriages have underlying problems before WLS ever comes into play, this is what people forget. So yes having your husband involved is such a wonderful thing and not everyone married who has WLS is going to divorce, so couples will enjoy the new journey together, others will realize that with WLS or not at some point this was going to happen, the WLS may help it along a little faster, but that is not the whole cause of marriages breaking up. Keep your husband involved it is a good thing. Take care. Donna Jgranifty2 wrote: Misty, My husband has been to EVERY appointment with me starting with Orientation. Guest guest
My husband was very supportive of the surg and he says that he was glad that he went to all my appts with me so he new what I was going thru and how to help me with some of it. Make sure you talk to him honestly about you not changing that you are still the same person inside. Some I think most even the supportive ones feel threatened at times when they see you transform into a beautiful butterfly. My husband and I are the closest we have ever been and I think it is because he was able to go thru the journey with me. Keep us posted as to how it goes. Take care RoseMisty wrote: my husband said he wants to come with me to all the appts, his comment to me was even though I will be the one having the surgery - its the both of us that are going to go through this life changing journey. Guest guest
Donna, That's pretty much what I meant by " emotional changes " -- you've just used much more detail! :-) We act one way when we're heavy, and that may change when we lose the weight. My changes started once I decided to go with this process, and spoke with my doctor. In the last 8 months or so that I've been doing this, I've been able to stop taking my anti-depressants and feel *much* better than I have in years! I'm at pre-op goal weight now, and should have surgery scheduled next Tuesday. I'm sorry that you had to go through what you did with your husband, but I'm happy for you that you know you're better off now! :-) And I agree, if your marriage is strong before WLS, it is much more likely to stay that way. I'm hoping mine is. a Misty, > > My husband has been to EVERY appointment with me starting with > Orientation. It's been a great help to him, to understand what I'm > going through.
