Guest guest
got his helmet a few days ago and we are in the beginning stages. but everytime I take it on and off I feel like Im hurting him because he screams and it feels like its hard to take off, I usually end up scraping him with it. But if I stretch it any wider to take it off then Im afraid I will break it. This is frustrating. Jessie -6 months
Guest guest
Hi Jessie- You won't break it. I know how you feel, I was afraid to stretch it too much too, but it won't break. It's especially hard in the beginning because it's freshly made and really stiff, but as you move along with treatment, it will become more pliable, and you will feel more comfortable with it. What I did was line the closed side ear hole with my son's ear and used that as my guide to get it on him on the first try without too much extra adjusting. You just really have to pull it apart to get it on and off. Good luck! Guest guest
I also would sit my baby in her highchair or something when putting it on or taking it off at first. This made it easier for me. Don't be afraid to break it. Good luck and please keep us posted. Guest guest
We also found it was easier in a high chair or with one person holding the baby while the other puts it on/off. -christine sydney, 3.5 yrs, starband grad > > I also would sit my baby in her highchair or something when putting it on or taking it off at first. Guest guest
It is nerve-wracking! So glad I'm not the only one who fears breaking it. It's just too expensive not to worry about. My clinician at Cranial Tech recommended putting my son in the Bumbo seat for when I'm by myself and need to put it on/take it off. I had never even tried my son in his bumbo (3 1/2 months old!) and he was able to do it! I was so excited it helps me worry less about the break. One warning: don't put the helmet on a chair! I thought I was by myself and a friend came in to visit with me while I did a diaper/clothing change and sat on the chair without looking, luckily his DOC band was totally okay... now I put it in his crib when I'm changing him or doing his stretches. > > got his helmet a few days ago and we are in the beginning stages. but everytime I take it on and off I feel like Im hurting him because he screams and it feels like its hard to take off, I usually end up scraping him with it. Guest guest
Just and FYI - my ortho told me not to worry about breaking it. She said that she'd had a parent accidently run over it with the car and it still didn't break. It was a little bent, but she was able to salvage it for continued use. We had a STARband.
