Hi Ron,

You are doing So well I am so happy For you. You have been struggling for such a long time it is great to see how much progress you are finally making. My suggestion for you would be to start taking your measurements. If you go to any store that sells sewing materials for quilts and look for a quilter's tape measure they go beyond the 60 inches that the normal ones have. That way you can also see in other numbers ways that you are becoming the incredibly shrinking man. Especially after surgery when you don't lose weight and you are doing all of the right thing and the scale doesn't seem to be moving. Keep up the swimming even if you are not walking every much right now. I know how hard it is with all of this heat. I have never faired well in the heat either.

Ron Congratulations, you are doing so great. Swimming is one of my favorites, I don't swim well or graceful, but with the water aerobics it really works you out and tones you. With this heat I so look forward to my classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. So with this heat just stick to the swimming and you'll still lose as long as you stay on meal plan or close to it. Then when the heat let's up add back in some walking. I'm really proud of you, let me know when you weigh in again and I'll do a happy dance with you for be a member of the century club (pre op that's wonderful). There's a lady in swim aerobics she lost 200 pounds pre op, weighed 487 before losing, had surgery at 287 then in a year and a half lost 162 and now weighs 125 pounds (she's probably about 5' 2" approximately). She wears a size 6, but has a lot of excess skin and will start her plastics next year and she will be a little petite

thing. She is now except the extra skin really hangs and causes her to wear bigger size and it gets in her way, so she's really ready for the plastics. Some of hers will be paid for, some not. Ron keep up the good work, don't give up the swimming it's wonderful. Take care. Donna JBBQ Man wrote: Okay kiddies, I'm just checking in, as promised. something I shouldn't, but I haven't gone full boar over the edge at all.) I don't get out and walk as much as I should but I am still swimming 3 times a week and have noticed some nice results already. Of course, part of the reason I'm not walking much is this God awful heat. Once it cools down some, I'll get out there and walk some more. I'm actually loking forward to losing all this excess weight because one of the "side effects" a lot of post-ops talk about is being cold all the time. That won't be so nice in the winter, but I hate summers so much right now because I just don't do heat well. It'll be nice to be able to abide by it. :) Anyway, as to the results I have noticed from my swimming... I have realized some lost inches in my hips and thighs. Since

I haven't really measured those areas before, I don't know how much of me has diappeared, but it's significant enough for me to notice, so I'm pleased so far. ALSO... 2 days ago, the Craig scale here in Napa said I was 431. It's entirely possible that I've lost an additional 2 pounds since then. If so, I am now a proud and happy member of the century club (and that's pre-op, folks!) On July 24, 2005, when I re-started this journey, I was at 529. It's like the fog is lifting and I can see the 399 written on the wall at the end of the tunnel. Of course, I'd not have made it this far without the support of everyone here. You are all such wonderful, caring people. I wish I could just hug you all! :) Okay, mushy stuff aside, THANK YOU ALL! Now, let's all lose some more weight! LOL

WOW! That lady lost nearly 3 of herself! :) I can only imagine how bad the loose skin is. And that's only because I can see how bad it's already getting on me and therefore how bad it'll be when I have lost a lot more. Oh well...

Thanks Donna and Ramona too for your encouragement. As soon as I get to a reasonably reliable scale and see that I'm actually there, I'll let you know. Sometimes it's easy to lose focus on things, but I've found that the closer to goal I get, the harder it is to lose that focus. I'll keep you all posted on my progress.

great job! and it looks like a soon to be reached goal is not having to be creative to weigh yourself but getting to be able use any scale. that was a great goal when i hit that............... keep it down! bBBQ Man wrote: WOW! RON YOU STUD!!!! You've lost nearly 100 lbs.

WOWOWOWOWOWOW!!! I hadn't done the math before, you

are just a losing machine!!

Yes, I too thought about how much better i was

handling the heat wave than I would have been 100 lbs.

ago...I was cold all of the time for a while, but I'm

not now. I'm more or less just " normal " . Sometimes

cold, sometimes hot...but it's all more manageable

when I have less carcass to carry around.

Don't let the heat beat you. Good for you with the

swimming. You really should take measurements, and

write them down...so at least you can start to track

the differences. It will be such fun for you later

on, believe me!!!

Keep it up, brother,

Big hug,

Thanks, Ron. I am melting just sitting here at my computer so walking is pretty much out of the question until things get cooler again. I'm really hoping that one of the benefits of GBS is that I won't sweat as much as I do. It's really NOT attractive!! I've gotten used to carrying around a hand towel with me these days. Yikes - will it ever end???

Thanks for the encouragement - you're a pearl!!

Go , Go , Go ! :)Walking outside in this heat is certainly not going tro work for most people, so definately wait for Mother Nature to calm things down a bit. Just be careful when you first get started walking. You don't want to get winded or tired so much that you cannot make it back home. Start with a block or two and add some progressively. In the mean time, you can always walk around in Target, Walmart, the mall, etc..... nice and air conditioned. :) Stay cool... you will do well !

Ron:

You're such an inspiration! Keep up the good work. I know, the heat

is a bear, but you're right. It's easier to tolerate as a normal

weighted person. I used to HATE the heat. Now, I still don't care

for it much, but it's OK. I still love the cold weather, and

bundling up is great fun (especially when there's someone cute to

cuddle with!).

You're well on your way. It's nice to be able to look back and see

that the first baby steps are past you, and while there may be many

more step to go, you're in the thick of it, and you know now that

you'll make it! We all know it too!

Robynn, were you a high school cheerleader? :) If not, you surely could have been! If so, it shows! :) Tomorrow, I'll go weigh in on "crazy scale" and see what it says. Then, I'm off to hit the pool. Next thing I need to do is figure out something nice to do for this angel of a woman who allows me to use her pool.

Embarrassingly enough, I was. Well, not a

cheerleader, a " song girl " . We were the " cool " ones

that did a Abdul dance routines. (You know, the

big 80s hair, the whole thing.) But I quit after a

year, because I wanted to do sports. It did get me a

lot of dates, though....

Bring the lady flowers...hydrangeas or peonies...and

tell her that you really appreciate her kindness. Or

bring her some fresh fruit.

That's my suggestion....
