Guest guest
Ron: Thanks for asking! Donna, thanks for your concern too. The knee is so much better. I am following Coach 's directions. I am taking Vitamin C and Glucosamine (in addition to my vitamins) to aid in recovery. I am also wearing a brace when I run. Additionally, per my coach's directions, I bought a foam roller to stretch out the I-T band (where the injury took place). Rolling on the foam really hurts, but after it feels great, like a lot of pressure has been released from my outer thigh. (It's amazing that muscle tightness in the outer thigh causes the tendon to be pulled up and therefore makes the knee cap weird out; pardon my non-medical-expert-ese, but this description is how I understand why my knee was hurting.) Last Saturday, I did my first distance run (since the injury) with no pain--5 miles! My pace was just a tad slower, but my goal is to complete the marathon, not break a world record (ha ha ha!) And this morning, I did my second-to-last maintenance run (2.5 miles) also with no pain! Yee haw! Friday will be my last maintenance run before the big day. Between the runs, I am resting my legs, doing my stretches, avoiding stairs, and taking care not to do anything " new. " ( " Nothing new " is a mantra of marathoners.) Indeed, faith, positive thoughts and prayer work! Last week, I was very sad thinking that I'd really have to struggle to get to the finish line. I'm much more upbeat now. I've still got a bit of the jitters about Sunday, July 30th, but the jitters are mixed with happy excitement as I near the completion of the marathon training that I started in Feb of this year. Ron, Donna and everyone, your encouragement and support (and that of the whole group) means the world to me. I can't wait to post the pic of me crossing the finish line for the whole group to see! Francisco P.S. I'm getting two tattoos (starting outline on July 31st) to celebrate running the marathon—ankle bands with wings at my ankles. I'll post pics of those when they're complete. > > Thanks Francisco for your words of encouragement. However, I am wondering how YOU are doing now. I know you had hurt your knee. How's that going now? What do you think your marathon prognosis is? I hope all is well for Sundays run. > > Ron >
