As far as french fries I get the cascadian Farms fries and then bake them in the oven - not so greasy. I get them at the HFS. You can also boil real potatoes till soften somewhat and then cut them, season them and bake them (again no frying). I bake my chicken nuggets - Also I have much succeess making waffles in a waffle maker than pancakes. in New York (LJs mom) ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Guest guest
As far as healthy goes-just think simple meat, veggies and potatoes. Meat is gfcf as long as it is not breaded or have anthing added to it. All veggies and fruits {fresh} are gfcf and very healthy. Now all you are really left to sub is grains. For pancake and waffles mixes-Kinnikinnick is the best I have ever had-light and fluffy-no grainy texture at all. Pre made breads-again it is kinnikinnick hands down. You can experiment with different flours besides rice to find a texture you like. And always blend several flours together when you sub cup for cup of wheat flour. I have many recipes if you need somthing specific just let me know and I can post. F newbie > Hi all. I am newbie to the 100% GFCF for 4 weeks so > far (seems like forever already). Guest guest
Hello, I'm a newbie to this group. My status as far as the surgery goes is: waiting for a referral. My Dr. has been on maternity leave and now she seems to not believe me when I tell her about Kaiser's new guidelines of 40+ BMI and no co-morbidities. So, I'm awaiting an email to see if she can confirm that is correct. Do any of you know? At any rate, about me...I'm 31, from the Sacramento area, married and we have a 4 month old. I've been overweight since I was about 11. Now my BMI is 42+, and I'm easily 100 pounds overweight. I have high cholesterol, but I'm not taking meds since I just found this out. Diabetes is in my family also. My mom had the surgery in May 2005 and has done fantastic. I have learned a lot from her, and I know it will not be an easy journey..but I've decided to go for it. I want to change my life around for me and my daughter. SO, can anyone tell me...if my Dr. will not give me a referral, do I switch Dr's? What should I do? I don't understand why she won't do it. Her assistant called me and said I had to be over 50 BMI and have diabetes or some other kind of obesity issue already. That made no sense to me, so I thought I'd post here for some answers. Oh and also to make new friends who have done or are doing the surgery. Thanks a bunch! Glad to meet you all.
Guest guest
Welcome to the group. As far as I no you must have a BMI of 40 and 2 co-mobities to qualify for surg. Your Dr. could put a referral in for you. Document the diets that you have already tried. You could if declined always write a letter and see if the denial could be overturned too. Hope this helps. Guest guest
I think I saw your post on the Kaiser site, this one is easier to read. My PCP Abad-DelMar, a nice young doctor who speaks English, was very supportive for the WLS and actually recommended it to me and my wife. She works in the Mott building in Roseville. See if you can't change to her board and then get into the program. It sounds to me like Kaiser has no reason to not help you. She was direct and supportive. Guest guest
Thanks Guy and Laurie!! Guy, I did write down your Dr.'s name and also researched her on Kaiser's website. If I don't hear back from my PCP I will be switching over! Laurie, I tried searching Kaiser's site but could not find specific criteria for the surgery. Seeing as how my mom went through it, I truested her to tell me I would qualify and after researching further I've found that I think I am qualified for it. I'm hoping my PCP emails me back by tomorrow to find out more. Thanks again. This board is great and much easier to read than Kaisers! Guest guest
Go to the Kaiser web site and find the requirements.Jenn wrote: Thanks Rose. I heard from some women on the Kaiser board that Kaiser changed it to no morbidities. Anyone know if that is accurate? Thanks again. > Hello, I'm a newbie to this group. Guest guest
Jenn Welcome to this wonderful group. I am 15 months post op. I started orientation Nov. 16, 2004, at 272 pounds. Had surgery April 11, 2206 at 228 pounds, I could of had it sooner but due to closing down my business money wise I waited a little longer and lost extra weight and am happy that I lost extra because I was able to have lap instead of open. Today I am 138 pounds, smaller than I was in way to many years, I think in 7Th grade and I'm 50 years young and getting younger every day and 5'5". Life has had many stresses for me this past year, but my WLS journey has been so wonderful, and life will be in time too. You will meet a lot of wonderful people here. Take care. Guest guest
Hi Jenn... I am 36 years old with a BMI of 50 and " no " co-morbidities and was recently approved by my Southern California PCP for WLS. Hope that helps. I've also found out by reading these posts for the last few months that if your current PCP turns you down - look for another PCP. Don't give up! Good Luck, > Hello, I'm a newbie to this group.
