This is the first time I have posted to this group. I am 6 1/2 weeks

post op, and I am now having problems swallowing. My pills, soft

foods, and even some liquids cause me to feel sick to my stomach, and

causes chest pain mid sternum. Has anyone in the group had narrowing

of the esphogus? The doctor has scheduled a scope for next monday, yet

my diffculties seem to be getting more frequent! Any advise???

Janette, strictures are pretty common. It will be

diagnosed during your endoscopy, which is pretty much

a cake walk. He can dilate it then and there. Good

luck.

Well, it sounds like you could have a

stricture...which isn't a big deal once you get

scoped. It would be getting worse for a little bit.

Once he scopes it, it will open you up.

I didn't have one, but I think someone else did.

Don't worry too much, but call your doctor again if

you see it really getting worse.

You may want to suck down a lot of sugar free

popsicles to make sure you are getting enough liquid.

I found them easier to get down than drinking water in

the beginning. Also, you can try hot tea (herbal).

That's the most important thing, the water. You have

plenty of extra weight (we all do) to keep you alive

and kicking for some time, so don't worry about that.

It's the water or hydration that you need to focus on.

Good luck, and let us know how Monday goes!

I'm glad you have a scope scheduled, but it may

need to be done sooner. It sounds to me like you might have a stricture.
