Guest guest
Attention All Parents with Kids on G-Tubes, Have any of you ever seen the phenomenon where the ballon at the end of the G-tube gets shredded internally? A freind of mine whose daugher has Cebral Palsey and aspiration issues is on a " temporary g-tube. " The balloon on the end keeps on getting shredded in her system. They can't figure it out? They thought it was the Prevacid because it would be coated with the granules from that med, but even when they stopped her on that, the balloon keeps on getting mangled. I honestly have never heard of that happening and I've heard alot about g-tubes on this site. Any idea's, suggestions or fix it would be appreciated. The girls name is Hannah and she is three. Guest guest
, I am not quite sure what you mean by her g-tube getting shredded, but the balloon on my son's g-tube sometimes decomposes if that is what you mean. Unless I have a problem with his g-tube, I change it every 3 months. The balloon is usually black or green looking from the stomach acid eating away at it. Occasionally, the balloon has deflated because it had a hole in it. I have no way of knowing how long the tube has been that way before discovering it, but it has only actually come out once for that reason. Many times the g- tube stays in even with the balloon deflated. What kind of g-tube is she using? How often does this happen? I would have her call the company who makes the g-tube to see if they have had any complaints similar to hers.
