Guest guest
Debbie, Do you recall anything about acne being aggravated with gh? Max is definitely having some trouble with this. It's especially aggravating on his upper back. Now, I know that he sweats a lot, so that does not help. His face is pretty clear because he washes it with Clearasil, so we are making him do the same with his back. The poor guy even has it in his scalp! Max is going through a lot of changes. I fear that we may be nearing the end of his growth. His voice is changing, his body is changing and he has grown more in the last 5 months than he has in a year! I guess Dr. H. will be able to tell us more in January. Jodi Z
Guest guest
Hey Jodi Good thing you put Debbie B. I spell my name Debby; so I thought you meant the other Debbie, until I saw the initial. Of course you have good practice with all the Jodi's!!! Poor Max. Is he excited about " the end " coming or is he having a difficult time with it? I remember some of the discussions I have had with Adam about what puberty does (body wise) and he was totally grossed out and proclaimed he was staying a kid forever! LOL Which is just fine with me since it's going to be a LONG time before he has to deal with it, even though he is 12 now. But he has become really into body building. My former boyfriend has never bothered to come and get his stuff out of my basement and that includes full gym equipment (more stuff than regular gyms have I would imagine!) so Adam " trains " now--which is what he informs me he is doing and then I have to ooh and ahh over his " big " muscles! Yesterday he actually asked me how to get that " muscle " chest/stomach men have (I think he was referring to 6 packs). I told him " puberty " . So now he's OK with it coming. What a web we spin eh? As for the acne. Nope the list from Sick Kids here in Toronto has nothing about that or any other type of skin condition. But the paper is almost 4 years old. I think when we go back to the endo in Feb. I'm going to ask for the letter they are handing out now. I'd be interested to see if anything has changed. My X husband had horrible acne as a teenager. It severely affected his self esteem. I, on the other hand, only had one or two every once in awhile throughout my teen years. I had hoped my kids would inherit " my skin " . It looks like Colette is a bit of both. She gets the acne horribly on her forehead but not much anywhere else. It's too soon to tell with Adam, but things around here usually go " if one gets it the other one doesn't " So I am praying that is the ONE thing Adam does not have to contend with. Colette's acne seems to break out badly when she stops cleaning her face with those special pads. I think they are called " Oxyi " or something like that. I just picked her up another jar, and it's already helping again. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. How are you doing (the foot? etc?) Take care.oh PS I saw a photo of you, Max, Adrienne and her son when you were in Niagara Falls. Nice shot. She's been emailing me some breathe taking pictures of Canada (you wouldn't know I live here! LOL they are awesome). Guest guest
your son is 12, is he on gh? If so where was he on the growth chart where is he now? How tall is he now? You say he is lifting weights does that mean he is gaining muscle? Any side effects with GH? Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Debbie Adam is an enigma (I'm not sure that is spelled right!) He's one of these kids that I have taken to countless doctors and they say " well he has some of this, some of that, but not enough of anything to warrant a diagnosis " . It's very frustrating. Here in Canada our doctors gave him the RSS diagnosis because " nothing else made sense " . I was very relieved to get a chance to go to the convention in Chicago a few years ago and have Dr. H. look at him. She took one look and said " yup he's RSS " . At least that was definite. What puzzles us all is his bone age. I've been told it's delayed by 6 years. Everyone (including Dr. H.) has said " that's impossible " . But my endo is holding firm that the hand x rays have been read right. So Adam is 12 but for many, many reasons we didn't start GHT until he was 8 (long story!). So right now (as of Sept. anyway) he's 29.6 kg (65.2 lbs) and 134.4 cm tall (4.4 feet). The GHT has been a Godsend. He showed 400% improvement in his growth rate as compared to when he was not on GH. But we JUST made the charts in Sept. He is finally at the 3rd percentile for height. I'm not sure what percentile he is for weight, I'm guessing around the same because Dr. H. didn't mention anything about packing on weight for him (or being concerned he might be getting to over weight for his height--both of which she commented on with many other families). So I figure for his height, he must be a good weight. Also why I mention he's an enigma.........even though his bone age is extremely delayed (even for RSS) he has never taken periactin nor has he had feeding tubes. I think my style of " eat whenever " has helped. I'm not sure, but he's a good eater from what I can see and compared to what other RSS mom's have to go through. What else? Oh no, no side effects from the GHT. We've been very lucky. As for the body building........well he can only do so much with his frame. He is very into this and has been for about a year now. It seems to not be a passing fad with him. He usually does running laps, (times himself to see how fast he is) and then pounds the crap out of a punching bag, there's a lap pull down machine and he's pulling about 40 lbs (way more than I can!!). He's a little monkey with this stuff. I think he's also using my dumb bells (but they are like 5 lbs each or something). Right now we are not doing " serious " body building (although he likes to think he is LOL) but I support this interest of his because I think it is very reasonable for him to pursue that type of " sport " (if you know what I mean). He's absolutely terrified to participate in his grade 7 gym classes (he told me he gets " creamed " by the other boys........a complaint I don't doubt for a minute). He has an excellent teacher this year who has decided to make him time keeper or other such jobs so he doesn't have to play, but weight training seems to be a " guy " thing that is more his speed. Plus I noticed many, many 'short' guys at the Olympics this summer in the body building/weight lifting areas, so I figure this might be a long term thing he needs (muscle to make up for lack of height). Is he gaining muscle? Well from what I have read, he can't really gain alot considering he is not in puberty yet. He loves to flex his arm to show me his " bump " or whatever you call that muscle on the upper arm. He does have it, but his arms are like toothpicks to start with........I figure it's more a self esteem thing for him right now. I often remind him that he can train 24/7 and he won't get the muscles men have until puberty. I don't want him killing himself down there in the basement! But at the same time I tell him that his efforts are " good training " for his body when he does begin puberty. It's a fine line I'm walking here. I want him to feel good about himself and his body (especially since it's his body that has caused him so many problems in his short life) so I don't want to discourage him from doing this but at the same time I don't want him to mistakenly think that at this point in his life he is going to make himself " big " (as in tall). I don't know if I'm explaining this thought of mine well or not. Do you know what I mean? Sorry this email message has gone on this long. Hope it helped some. The other Debby (in Toronto). Guest guest
Thanks, . I've heard great things about it, too. I think I'll get some and try it if the Clearasil does not work. Mind you, the acne is not BAD, but it is increasing and we don't want Max to have to suffer from that, too. This kid has dealt with enough already!
