Dr. H responded very quickly to my message about the acne

situation. She said that it is indeed testosterone that is causing

it and not anything to do with gh, so anyone who is worrying out

there can relax. It's just another part of puberty. We, however,

worry about ANYTHING that is a bit unusual with Max because of his

past medical issues. And current ones. He is a complicated kid.

What did she recommend? A dermatologist. Well, we are not going

that route for now for several reasons. One, he deals with enough

doctors and we are tired of dr. appts. all the time. I work

fulltime now and I cannot just take off and go whenever the doctor

happens to have an opening. Also, we don't want to make this a big

deal for him. Most teens deal with this situation and survive just

fine. We just wanted to make sure that the gh is not a

contributor. (Don't think that you all won't wonder when your kids

get to be his age!) Lastly, the Clearasil is working. And I will

take 's advice and try Proactiv if need be. I have several

friends who have their teens using it and they rave about it.

I hope I did not alarm anyone, but I like to be able to post

questions when I need help, too. At least by the time you all get

to where we are, we will have answers for you!

Jodi - I have battled acne most of my life, and I am now 41 years

old. NOTHING worked until I switched to the Murad products. I

tried Proactive and that didn't work for me. The most important

things I have found are a) drinking at least 8 glasses of water a

day (TRULY!); and B) proper cleaning and with the face, actually

proper moisturizing. The drier my face got, the more it broke out.

Murad's products can be pricy - but they do have an Acne set which

has literally been a life saver for me. They also have a men's line

which includes a product for the back......

I truly believe that no one can understand how painful it is to have

acne unless you have gone through it yourself. I used to NOT attend

functions depending on whether my face was broken out; I used to

determine where I would sit and who I would sit next to depending on

which side of my face was more broken out. I was a competitive ski

racer, so most of the time my face was sunburned or tan, which

somewhat hid the acne (but also made it much worse).

Sounds like Max's acne isn't that bad -- have him shower and scrub

his back each morning, and then if he is willing, you can clean it

again at night with a washcloth, and then put a topical medicine on

like Cleorosil. But it needs to be cleaned morning and night. The

drying medicine each night will help.

Good luck!
