Guest guest
Mimi, I'm so sorry to hear that, but just remember, you are doing everything that you possibly can, and it is not your fault that your child is small. Just take care of him and be the best mother you can be! le, mom to Datreon
Guest guest
Well, I am sad to say that it didn't go well. In 6 weeks he has only gained 5 ounces! The doctor is going to refer us to another feeding specialist and said that we would " re-evaluate " the situation at his 12 mos visit. He said we would talk about " options " then. Needless to say I was already bummed and when I was checking out there were 3 moms with babies behind me and the receptionist asked if I need to make an appointment and I said I think it's already scheduled..she looked and said loudly " yep, his one year check up is Jan. 24th). You should have seen the looks I got! You would have thought we were aliens..I guess it was because Isaac was in his " infant carrier " . Anyway I fought back tears until I got to the car and I cried all the way home. Sometimes it is so frustrating (and I am sure you all will agree) because even though I am doing everything I possible can he is still so far behind. Thanks for listening- Mimi mom to Isaac (almost 10.5 mos, RSS, Hypothyroidism, 12 lbs 10oz, 24 5/8 " )
Guest guest
I remember as if it were yesterday - the comments " he's so small " or their eyes popping out when they heard how old he was. People who are clueless can be so rude. I remember Colin- getting to about 14/15 pounds at a year and I thought it was so great. I also think about the time between 12 months and this past February when he was just 19 pounds on the morning of his G-I surgery and I see it isn't so great. We tried Duocal/periactin (which the endo said did nothing), cream cheese bars worked well blended with cream and oil and if you can get Isaac to eat ice cream, let it melt and blend that into the cream cheese bar also. I am here to listen anytime. (mom to Colin- RSS age 4 and Gillian non-RSS age 4 months) > > Well, > > I am sad to say that it didn't go well. In 6 weeks he has only gained > 5 ounces! Guest guest
Mimi - If it makes you feel any better, Isaac at 12 1/2 pounds at 10.5 months old is right in the average for RSS babies, according to our listing of about 100 kids (just scanning the list). Yes, compared to AGA children, he is so tiny. But you are doing everything right. Clearly, a 5-ounce weight gain isnt' good for 6 weeks, and hopefully you can get good help. Many parents experience this slowness of weight gain from 9 months onwards, I think because babies begin to move a lot more -- so many of us have kids who stopped gaining weight at 13-18 months old -- exactly when so many of them began walking/running everywhere! Calories, calories, calories -- it's enough to make us scream! Salem > > Well, > > I am sad to say that it didn't go well. In 6 weeks he has only gained > 5 ounces! He is MUCH more active even though we aren't crawling or walking he is sitting up on his own pretty well! Thank you for letting me know!
