Guest guest
Thanks for the great responses to my eating questions for Dalia. I know that keeping a bottle in the mouth at night can cause tooth decay, but I didn't think that happened if you just fed the bottle before bed and then took it away. That is what I do with Dalia. She does not get fed in the middle of the night anymore as of around a month ago. Also, she has no teeth. So what is the problem with the " nighttime " bottle? And, is it typical to have a delay in teeth coming in with SGA/RSS kids? Dalia is almost 13 months and no sign of teeth. Guest guest
Hi again Sheryl- Delay of tooth reuption is not an uncommon thing. I know that I got all of my teeth about a year later than " normal. " My 2-year molars didn't come out until I was 3, 6-year molars at 7, etc. I didn't lose my first tooth until I was well past 8, as well. So I'm not surprised that Dalia doesn't have any teeth at " just " 13 months <wink>. -Sharon- Just an RSS kid who grew up > > Thanks for the great responses to my eating questions for Dalia. > > I know that keeping a bottle in the mouth at night can cause tooth > decay, but I didn't think that happened if you just fed the bottle > before bed and then took it away. Guest guest
Yeah totally common to not get teeth until late, even with children without growth problems...Most dentists don't worry until they are two years old. Our son is also delayed on the teething thing, but he has all most now except 5 including his incisors (go figure why). I think it is great you are not giving her a latenight bottle. THey do make a baby oragel that you can gently rub on her gums to clean the milk off prior to placing her in bed. That is if she sleeps soundly enough to do that!!! I was told by a dentist that the problem with a nighttime bottle even if it had water in was the possibility of pusing the formation of the mouth out of original shape...Just like with a pacifier. I have been using a sipppy cup for Mathieu since he was about 5 months old, and he has done well. I have used it with water only at night since he was 12 months old, and had gotten used to brushing his teeth (actually gums.. LOL) before going to bed and I was cleaning them after I nursed at night, to get the sugar off his gums and teeth prior to placing him in his bed. Now I will have to say I am anal about it because I have awful molar teeth and I don't want my children suffering the same problems I have had. My oldest has had perfect check-up every time. On a side note, I too used Avent bottle (when I wasn't there to nurse) and the avent sippy cups. They are chunky but they have hand holder for her you can buy seperatly for the sippy cups. They are at Toys R Us and I think Burlington Coat Factory, BabysRus. I loved them!! The other type of sippy I like now that my son is older is the playtex insulated. It hold drinks warm or cold and does not cause condensation on the cup. Therfore, it doesn't drip all over the place. They also make them with ones that come with straws, they are bigger 10-12 oz. cups, but well worth it if you are interested in weaning from the bottle. Good-luck, Jay Mom to 5 1/2 Mathieu 23 Months Thanks for the great responses to my eating questions for Dalia.
