Guest guest
Isaac went to the endocrinologist today and I asked him about this study. He said that he was amazed at how many people still bring this up because the study was done so long ago. The hormones they were using were from human cadavers. When they were using human growth hormones there were some viruses that were latent and they were passed on to some patients. He mentioned the name of one condition but I forgot what it was.He said that he understands the concern about " growing " unwanted cells but he said that GHT now versus 20 years ago is so advanced that the side effects are small compared to the advantages. Not only does it cause growth but it builds muscle mass, boots appetite in some patients. He also said that if the level (I forgot what he called it) is elevated and there were concerns of it possibly causing cancer then the growth hormone treatment would be stopped. He mentioned the name of one condition but I forgot what it was. TS maybe? He said that compared to 20 years ago the sucess rate for patients with lukeima is around 90%. He has done several studies on GHT and is actually going to be speaking for Genetech (spelling?)..which I assume is a company that manufactures the hormones. I am sure I have forgotten some of the other stuff he said and there may be a couple of things " lost in translation " but you get the general idea. This probably isn't relevant but just to let you know he has his PHD in pediatric endocrinology and is considered to be the best in our region. Just my 2 cents. I will continue to study possible side effects but at this point in time my husband and I are in agreement that we will start Isaac on growth hormone treatment as soon as we can.
