Mimi - this is one of those situations where you are d9 & #$ if you do

and da(#*$ if you don't, ya know? Every expert will tell you to get

a child off a bottle before 1 year or you are doomed. But many of

our children will NOT drink milk or formula from a cup. Experts say

the child can go without milk or formula for a couple days, and will

eventually give up and use the cup. But our underweight kids can't

go days without milk or formula, ya know?

The feeding therapist at the convention recommended NOT using sippy

cups (even though they are so great cuz they don't spill). She said

for our kids, cups with straws are much better. They used to make

those cups with locking straws -- my kids are older now so I have no

clue if those cups are still made. Maybe Isaac would drink using

one of the straws -- which would be really good for his oral muscles

as well.

Otherwise, to be utterly honest, calories are more important at this

point. That's my own opinion, clearly.... Salem

Hi Mimi

Ha weaning from the bottle!! was 2 1/2 when I

finally got done with the bottle. Kelli who is almost

2 1/2 still gets her bed time bottle (only 3 ounces).

I couldn't give milk in a sippy cup for a while

but finally at like 1 1/2 I got these cups from

Tupperware - tumbler cups and they are great. They

are spill proof (95%). You put a straw in the top and

even with the straw it doesn't spill. In about 3 1/2

years I've seen it drip a little maybe 3 times.

Also - try these cups and leave some pediasure

or chocolate milk with half and half in it and leave

it on the table and you'll see he'll go and sip on it.

Best wishes and hugs to you!!!!

With all the worry about weaning from a bottle, I thought I would

chime in as a person from a different culture (indian subcontinent)

where children are more " spoilt " by western standards. Most drink the

bottle till they are 3 or 4 (including me), sleep in their parents

bed even longer, arent disciplined much, mand dont self feed till 5 or

6. And these are regular kids. I am not promoting this style of

child rearing habits, I always try to find a middle ground for my own

children born and being raised in the US, but drinking from a bottle

till 3 or 4 is not all doom or gloom. My SGA daughter never drank

from a bottle so we no never had to wean her, but my healthy (and

addicted to milk) older daughter drank from a bottle till she turned

3.

I dont know if statistically we had more dental visits than those

who wean the bottle sooner.
