Reflux?

Hi, my daughter Bobbi (9 months)is going through a really tough time

at the moment, with what I think is reflux, although I am beginning

to wonder if maybe it could be something else, for about the last 4

months she has gradually been getting worse, she is currently on

Gaviscon and Domperidone, she is crying/screaming and coughing in

pain for up to an hour and a half before eventually throwing up,

directly after she is fine, does this sound like reflux symptoms to

others? Has anyone else experienced this with their child/baby? It

is breaking my heart to see her in pain all the time and the doctors

are just so relaxed about everything!

Sounds like more than reflux. Has she been checked for delayed

gastric emptying? The formula could be sitting in her stomach for

so long, curdling, not moving through and the only way she can get

it out is to throw it up. I would raise that question with your

GI. It is common in RSS babies and kids. My 16 year old still has

it. He eats smaller meals more frequently to compensate for it.

Ultimately he had surgery to help, but I hope you are not at that

point yet.

The test, by the way, is simple. The baby drinks some formula with

a special radioactive ingredient in it. Then she has to lie on a

table for awhile while the milk is moved through her stomach, or not

moved, as it sounds like it is happening. A large camera-type

device is lowered over her and they just keep on taking pictures.

She will cry because she has to be restrained, but if you bring toys

and vidoes, she will be distracted. Most babies eventually fall

asleep, if for no other reason they wear out from the crying.

Thanks Jodi I will definately be bringing this to their attention, sounds like

it could be just that, we were putting it down to reflux but just recently I

have been more convinced it is something else, is there anything you can suggest

now that will help. I feed her every 3 hours 50-70ml, she takes hardly any

solids.

Hi Brigette

I agree with everything Jodi has said,

One thing I notice with our son Liam is that his reflux gets worse

and his stomach doesnt empty properly if he is constipated.Just a

thought and hope it helps
