Guest guest
Hi. My son Colin- turned 4 yesterday and has been part of our local school district's pre-k class labeled as special ed - though for development reasons only. Other children inhis class also have development issues. They offer normal curriculum, plus speech, OT and PT every day. I am not that impressed b/c it is a tough schedule for me as a very full-time working mom. They have 1/2 day programs which is like 9-11:30 and transportation is not available. His speech is improving, yet his eating is still a major problem, but at least he is already in the school system. We live in northern NJ. Thanks. Guest guest
- my son christopher also just turned 4, on dec 15th!!! he also attends our elementry schools PALS Program, which is the disabled preschool. I feel he is doing extremely well in it, he receives OT once a week and gets PT and Speech with the rest of the group (he didnt need it one on one, but they come in and do it with the other 3 kids in the class so he gets reinforcement) they teach a normal cirriculm as well. they do music, art, and gym. they are very good with making sure he receives atleast 2 snacks while he is there ( except last week when there was a sub. there that didnt follow the routine) it is in his IEP that he is to be fed on demand plus 2 snacks while he is there. it is also a 1/2 day program but i feel all day would be to much for him to handle right now. he is possible ADHD and Obsessive Complusive. luckly where we live in NJ they do bus the disabled preschool kids. when he goes to kindergarten in 2 yrs he will be mainstreamed with the rest of the kids. good luck!!
