Guest guest
HI everyone. Autumn started Periactin a couple of weeks ago and still absolutly no change. She is at 1/2 tsp 3 times a day. I do it about 30-45 minutes before I sit her down to eat. Then she sit's for about 45 minutes while the family eats and there is no increase in appetite whatsoever. She still takes small amounts of her bottle and not much food, although what I give her is high fat and calorie. She was originally on 1/2 tsp twice a day and then it was upped to 3 times. Wouldn't it be better a higher dosage twice or something or is this it? Should I except it just doesn't work? thanks for any help mom of Autumn 11 mos about 14 lbs 25 inches
Guest guest
, Most of us have used Periactin twice a day at a higher dosage. Maybe you should talk to your doctor about trying that method. We found that for Max he needed an hour for it to take effect. I don't remember dosages, though. Don't give up. You may just have to try a little experimenting to see what works best. One more thought. If you are giving Autumn food with a lot of fat before she has a chance to eat on her own from the Periactin, that may be filling her up too quickly. Have you tried just offering regular foods first and then finishing with other mixtures? Jodi Z
Guest guest
I have no idea if her current dose approximates .25-.4mg/kg/day. Ask your physician if the amount being prescribed is in that range. Then also ask about the 3 times a day route. I have heard mixed results on that one. Several reasons. First negative is that you are indeed spreading out the dose and for some kids, three times means not enough. The second negative is that according to the literature, this med is a short-acting med (in the system about 6 hours or so). But this to me means that if you gave at breakfast and then at lunch, you are actually DOUBLING up for a couple of hours. This worries me a bit, and I would definitely ask your physician about their opinion on this question. This being said, remember that a simple 11 calories a day more for a child adds up to one incremental pound of weight over a year. So it doesn't take a lot to add weight. MAGIC recommends waiting one full month on the 100% dose level and then weighing the child again (comparing the child to his or her pre- treatment weight). Good luck! > > HI everyone. Guest guest
One thing that always surprises me with is that he likes 'strong' flavors much more than most small children. He loves flamin' hot cheetos, for example. Also, we like lots of Italian flavors, garlic, lemon, etc., and does, too. Lots of young kids prefer mild flavors. I do not know if this is true for other RSS/SGA kids, but it is something to think about.
