You have just named one of the MOST frustrating parts of special ed

preschool - the half-day program. There is just not enough funding

for a full-day program and these kids need full-day more than anyone

else. It is amazing how early intervention is a proven method of

remdediation and its effectiveness, yet there is no money to provide

all that these kids need. It is so frustrating.

Last summer I taught the preschool handicapped program in our

school. I felt as if just when I was getting the kids going with

something, it was time to pack up and go home. Between morning

routine of getting the day started, snack, playtime, and some other

routine things, by the time we had a beat to the day, it was over.

The teachers are usually as frustrated as the parents.
