Guest guest
, thank you thank you thank you! The link is in my hubbys email box. I am curious if anyone has an answer to the following question. I know that a lot of the toxic qualities of nicotine, and cigarettes in general, are due to the method..mainly smoking and inhaling. However, all those guys who chew were also at huge risk for mouth cancer, esophegeal..(sp) cancer, and gastric cancers. So, the question is, if my old man is chewing a ton of this nicorette...what are his risks? Is the gum so much more benign that its no big deal? I know we have a ton of nurses, etc on this board who I respect highly, as well as those who play doctors on tv...could you give me your opinions please? Oh, and the husband has been suffering a lot of gastric pain lately...and I think one of you who posted that the nicotine gum caused you stomach problems just gave me a clue as to what is going on! thanks for all of your help, theresa > > Carol, > > > > Could you please post that link again. Guest guest
On the safety issue of Nicorette gum... A while back I was researching this exact issue and found a Q/A session with a doctor who indicated that Nicorette will not harm you in any quantity. It's the other contents of cigarettes that are harmful, not the nicotine itself. I was going to forward the link (I saved it) but trying it now it's no longer valid. For myself, I've come to prefer *very* small amounts of chewing tobacco over the gum. There really isn't any reason I can find to take large amounts and spit. Works fine for me to use a small amount and not spit any part of it out. After a while I just take it out and throw it away. I found that this addresses my craving more than the gum (chewing tobacco has a lot of nicotine), and my jaws to start to hurt from constantly chewing gum, and also I resent the ridiculous price of the gum and the advertisements that tell us Nicorette is " strong medicine " . It's nicotine! You're just selling me an alternate mechanism for getting nicotine, at an absurdly inflated price! I'm sure there are risks with even small amounts of chewing tobacco, so I'm not recommending it, just conveying my experience. --Randy
