Guest guest
Might come down to me taking Imuran to get this flare under control. Originally when I started this diet I told myself that Imuran was the cutoff. If I was on the diet and this disease progressed to the point I was going to have to be on Imuran that I was going to stop it, and just live my life. Now, i'm obviously reconsidering. So my question is this.If you were on Imuran, did you go off it by being on the diet?Yes. , when does your insurance kick in? I think you should seriously consider getting a colonoscopy if it is back on and you are eligible. Maybe there is something tricky going on you should be cognizant of. Guest guest
If you were not on Imuran but had to go on it after being on the diet, why do you stay on the diet?Well, Imuran is the same thing as azathioprine, right? I'm on that, but I'm definitely still staying on the diet. It's my one hope of being able to get OFF the azathioprine someday. I see the meds as more of a temporary thing. I'm kind of looking forward to the meds actually WORKING though, and being able to eat more SCD legal foods =) Peace =)Alyssa 16 yo UC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)Azathioprine 50 mg 1x per dayPrednisone 25 mg 1x per day
Guest guest
the scope is in my near future. My insurance kicked in on the 1st.I know SCD is a good thing, even if I have to be on meds. The issue here is that i'm in the prime of my life, and I want to enjoy it while I can. I want to see the world, have fun, and travel all over. Experience life while I can run around and settle down later. Guest guest
the scope is in my near future. My insurance kicked in on the 1st.I know SCD is a good thing, even if I have to be on meds. The issue here is that i'm in the prime of my life, and I want to enjoy it while I can. I want to see the world, have fun, and travel all over. Well, I did that, so I can understand where you are coming from, butat the time I was in denial about how sick I was, and letting my baseillness get worse and worse, instead of dealing with it in any way.Like, I hadn't been diagnosed or discussed my symptoms with a doctor. The one time I had tried to, she just shrugged it off as hemmorhoids, which it wasn't, without a physical exam or asking more questions about it. And told me to get some hemmorhoid cream at the drugstore, which of course did nothing. And so I never really went to see another doctor about it for years and years, until I was way, way sicker. Experience life while I can run around and settle down later. Even if it's for a year, then sit back and cook again. The question, though, is will the meds make you well enough to be able todo that? And if you go off the diet at this point, will your symptoms simply worsen because now your body is used to eating this way, andnon-SCD food might bring on symptoms quicker than they did beforethe diet began. That happens sometimes, especially when one is in a flare, untilsome serious healing occurs.Anyway, I don't think you can answer a question like this until you goget scoped - better to know the state of your health and if they canfind a reason that you keep on flaring. Something particular may begoing on.Also - MP6 (aziaprine - or whatever it is called in that form) may or maynot work for you. Mara
Guest guest
- I understand -- I'm in my mid 30s', single and I know how you feel. Imuran worked for me for 2.5 years, till I flared four months ago. I had a GREAT time while on Imuran, just wish that I hadn't had that damn beer which triggered my symptoms. If Imuran works for you and however long it works, its just great. You have to do some liver tests, to make sure things are under control. Imuran isn't all that bad. If Imuran works, I would just ENJOY the music till it lasts. When it fails, you can always come back to diet control at that point. That's just my opinion. Good luck, -Andy
