Good luck and prayers coming your way. Hang in there!

Jillie

Hi Y'all,

Jillie goes in to the hospital in a wee few hours for her tonsils

and adenoids out, a bronchoscopy, an endoscopy and a liver biopsy.

She will be in the PICU afterwards. I am nauseous, Errol (hubbie)

hasn't slept and poor Jillie is oblivious. Wish us luck and a better

recovery than what I'm anticipating!

Dear

I will be thinking about you all!

If it's any help...Finlay went through a similar procedure last Oct

and recovered very very well. He had Tonsils and Adenoids out, an

upper GI biopsy (via endoscopy) a muscle biopsy and a lumber

puncture. He was 4 at the time. I was very very worried about how

his recovery would be (especially because he gets hypoglycaemia at

the drop of a hat!) and was amazed at how quickly he bounced back.

And I do understand that no matter how many emails you get from

friends telling you that you are doing the right thing and that

Jillie will be OK - you will still be worried sick!

Good Luck and do let us all know how she gets on...once you get

through the next couple of days I'm sure you will ALL feel much much

better

Take Care (hope you are going to the hospital armed with glossy

magazines and lots of chocolate!)

I really hope that all goes well with Jillian. I will be thinking of

you guys and I hope that she recovers quickly and better than you

think. Prayers your way and take care. I know this is such a

stressful time when our kids are going through these things. Try to

take it as easy as possible though.

Hugs to you,

Jodi R.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi ,

Here's hoping the rest of the recovery is a lot easier to handle.

Was she is your own PICU...if so it hopefully made is easier because

you know the nurses who would take care of her. Sorry she is still

reacting to the fear of shots - some nurse in Childrens' lab screwed

up Emerence's blood draw last spring and she threw up at the sight of

anyone in a white lab coat for months (including the photo lab person

at Walmart!) It did go away though after 3 months.

As far a hitting, I have found that is part of the terrible twos,

mabye just coincidental timing?

I hate to admit it but I am a bribing parent for some things (go back

to sleep in your own bed, you get a sticker type thing!)

I HOPE it gets better soon!

Oh (((HUGS))). Don't feel guilty! It needed to be done.

I am glad to see news of Jillie today. I have been hoping all went

well. As she feels better I am sure she will be back to her old self.

Take care,

Jillie

Hi Guys,

Thanks for emailing support to us for Jillie to get through her

various surgeries. She is now 10 days post a tonsillectomy, ear

tubes, a liver biopsy and an endoscopy.

As per the luck of an ICU nurse with a child in the hospital, things

did not go as planned. I was allowed to be with her until she was

unconscious which was awesome and a first in this the 5th time under

anesthesia. She was in the OR for 5 hrs! Apparently she could not be

intubated by anesthesia and the attending in ORL had to do it. She

has a very small unusual airway and is known to be problemmatic but

this inability to easily intubate whilst unconscious is scary. In an

emergency - unless in a phenomenal hospital, she might not make it.

The docs were nervous about pulling out the breathing tube but did

after giving her a hefty dose of steroids. She was sent to the PICU

with one IV line in and 13 failed attempts which were thankfully done

under anesthesia! Unfortunately, they had to do several blood draws

in the remaining time of our stay. That was another 8 sticks. 21

sticks in all in 24 hrs. I know how crazy it makes you all having

your child stuck for IV's. Imagine what is like for me - an expert in

IV's and blood draws to deal with this. I was fit to be tied.

Eventually we go home. Jillie eventually falls asleep and starts with

the noisy obstructive breathing. Then she starts having apneas (long

pauses in breathing) that require constant repositionning and a lot

of oxygen to keep her oxygen level up. This went on for 3 nights

before the swelling in her airway started to go down.

However, she is refusing to eat of drink, is constantly covering up

her arms and legs (probably in case she gets stuck again) and is

hitting me (this is new). And she is no longer the calm for her

growth hormone shots. Tonight, she was still crying 15 minutes after

her shot. Anyone any ideas on how to deal with all this. I was so

happy to get out of the house tonight and come to work! I think she

blames me for everything and I don't know if she'll ever forgive me.

I feel so bad for her and guilty for putting her through this.

Anyhow, hope you all are well and staying warm. In New England we

remain sick of the snow!

Janelle got very upset after a long hospital stay where she was stuck

several times and many of them went on a fishing expidition once they

stuck her. She was just beside herself from then on about shots, blood

draws, anyone who stuck her (I memory like an elephant) Maybe your

husband can do the shots now or just wait till she is asleep. I am so

sorry, I understand what you go through. I still tell the story as to

how I stood in the way of the residants in NY and told them she had had

enough and that they could wait a while for the blood draw. They

agreed that goodness.

Take care,
